What monster killed your first PC?

In 3.5 it was Babau with greater invisibility ring? At least it attacked without breaking invisibility.
party of rogue3/fignter3, ranger 7, paladin 7?, fighter/wizard 7 and half orc barbarian 7. If I recall correctly. We were just wiped out of existence with paladins sword +1 being the only magical weapon in group (low magic campaign and at that moment magical itemes costed 3x PHB price). And paldin being the only one capable of "seing" it with it's detect evil. Well its dispell magic dispelled almost every magic potion and effect we had. I had couple of potions that made me capable of ignoring its DR, well died before could hit. It turn was sneak attack and critical -> -9 from one attack and next round dead. I think that paladin lost his weapon after one hit due to babaus protective acid.
There were some bad tactics, but still... wasn't TPK because DM thought that it was enough and babau grapped some dead as food and teleported away. three dead, one at negatives and one with low HP.

EDIT: Wait a minute. That wasn't first. First was human Barbarian 12 killed by team mate with Sacrificial Heart spell.
DM made character who hated whips. His father whipped him as kid untill he lost it and raged, hit him good, broke the whip and left. Well two new ahracter were introducted to campaing and he arrived with quite egocentric wizard that annoyed the ones hosting us. So they told to other PC's teach us a leasson. I hadn't done anything wrong and a Bard took his whip and hit me... Only thing I could think was that after all childhood events he couldn't do nothing but rage. Things startted to look bad for them because raged angry barbarian charging (going to bard) and hitting the bard GOOD (with bare hands). Then other player with cleric character cast 6.th level Scarred Land spell Sacrificial heard. Save or die. 1 or 2 means death with barbarians good fort save. ROLL and 2. about 15-30 mins of game play with them and I am dead. Killed by team mate.
On second session he was killed by a golem ;).

My first PC death was my shifter Ragar, killed at 7th level in TPK by a drowned (MM3).
The first PC I killed was a elven fighter/wizard who ran straight into a pendulum blade trap in a cript, after saying "No, I don't need any healing", with only half HP left, after having checked the door for traps, but not the hallway thereafter:p.

The death of your first D&D PC was a once in a lifetime moment. For those who remember, what monster killed your first PC?

I'll kick it off with mine. My first PC, named Van Halen --I hear snicking :uhoh: -- was killed by a giant frog.

Mine too! I was in Raven's Ruin, and it was in that room that was a huge pit...It was my first adventure. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out why a huge mudpit with a giant frog was in this place...It was fun though!

My early characters never “died” so much as simply had no personalities and thus were not worth playing twice- I guess you could say that "bad roleplaying" killed my 1st character!

I do seem to recall losing a character to a carrion crawler- very frustrating at the time…

But NOTHING and I mean NOTHING holds up to the juvenile fit I pitched after a rust monster left my bad-arse fighter shivering in his undergarments. I mean, I was red-faced with rage, and pretty much just quit playing. It was somehow more traumatic than actually having the character die!

People generally regard me as one of the better roleplayers they have gamed with, because of the Dostoyevskyian depth and dimension I bring to the table. Thank goodness they can’t see my early-day roots as a little numbertwink snotling!

Hm. I DM way too much. First dead PC was already in 3.0, and he died from poison on a crossbow bolt.

In other games... mmm... well, I lost too many CoC and Stormbringer characters to remember which was first. Having to guess, I reckon the CoC character died from a gun wound and the Stormbringer one in TPK from a random encounter. I don't remember the first dead Cyberpunk character either, but I'll bet he died in a big explosion. Those are the usual ways.

Mainly due to infrequent playing sessions and frequent premature campaign "deaths", only one of my characters has died so far.

He was a dwarven fighter (miner), named Robert DenHero. He died fighting a bone golem (that stupid skeleton kept going and did some major harm) and at the same time being caught in the area of a fireball cast by a friendly wizard (who also wanted to take on the golem)...
The combination proved to much.

My first character, created in '76, hasn't ever died. He did have to gain experience for 15th level 7 times however due to encounters with undead. Always ran out of time for a restoration before he could get the cleric resurrected. Those experiences gave him an absolute hatred for anything undead, and he goes out of his way to destroy them now. I still use him every once and a while as a dimension travelling NPC.

My first character death was rather ignomious as my rogue failed to spot the pit trap, fell in, and bled out on the spikes before the party could figure out how to get to him.
