What nostalgic movie would you love to see remade/revisted?

Yeah, but are they doing the book or the movie... ;)
Unfortunately scuttlebut is that it will take place in a contemporary setting (ie Independence Day II), hey but at least the rumors are now saying it will cost more than $200 million.

There was actually a version in production in 00-01 that was going to be based in Seattle of all places *shudder*, sensitivity fears killed that idea and the production team decided to go with a more faithful adaptation set in victorian England. Unfortunately that project is certainly dead now.

Supposedly there is also a film adaption of John Christopher's Tripods books in the works as well. Does anyone else remember the comic strip version of The White Mountain that was in Boys Life magazine years ago? :D

Woohoo, Victorian WotW! Now we get to see the "all Earth's defenses" as they originally were - conventional bombs and Gatling guns. ;)

And I take it this means we have the tripods, not UFOs.

Now, I had heard that this is what Spielberg was attached to. Whether this whole rumor was a misunderstanding of Spielberg's work on War of the Worlds or whether it's someone else doing that, I dunno. I can't imagine Spielberg's doing both.

Unfortunately, I spoke too soon. Re-read the above post edits. :(

I had heard that as well. Those rumors were cropping up at the same time as the other WoTW project was going forward. I am sure there was plenty of Hollywood backroom dealings hashing it all out. Anyways there is supposedly still progress in the Tripod project.

For the most part, true. But there are some special cases... a remake of a true classic would just be silly. However, there are a lot of movies where the original left something to be desired, but the story was sound.
In that case, I want The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones remade with largely a different cast, a different screenwriter, and a different director. ;) While they're at it, they can either take Jar Jar out completely, or at least minimize his role, and toss the whole stupid idea of Annakin being a little kid in the first movie instead of a teenager.

Yes, absolutely. That was my favorite part of the magazine; I read that before I even read the joke section at the very back. ;)

Alas. But at any rate, it is Spielberg, so at least we'll get our money's worth. At least it'll be better than Independence Day (which I thought was extremely War of the Worlds in plot, btw).

I thought they already did that, wasn't it called The Matrix :D

the matrix was sooo not a sequel or even an homage to tron. you insult the movie tron by comparing it to the matrix. ick.

the matrix had no light cycles. how can you have a sequel to tron without light cycles? ;)

although, from what I hear, the game Tron 2.0 was a very decent homage to tron (i like that word, homage.... nice ring to it. :p). I'd like to see a film maybe based off of that idea.

I think there are too many unnecessary remakes being made as it is. If someone is going to do a remake, it should be done with a mind to being significantly different in perspective, setting, or something to make it a significantly different movie. I think remaking Clash of the Titans with CG special effects instead of the stop-motion animation would be a pretty pointless change. Rewriting the whole screenplay, improving the story, re-storyboarding the whole thing from scratch would probably be the minimum necessary for doing a remake of a film.

Well, I assume for the discussion that during the remake changes for the better would be made. Also that, we'd be leaving alone movies that don't need remaking. (opinions may vary of course) :)

By the way, how realistic do we want our 'remake wish' be? Remakes happen usually when a sufficient amount of time has passed and making a new version of a story can be done for a new generation of audiences.

If we threw reality out the window, heck yah I want remakes of Star Wars episodes 1-3. (you like how assume the third one is going to suck?)

Remaking Episode 6 would be cool too.

The comic book fan in me would love to see a "Punisher" remake. Ha ha ha ha. Yes, they've tried to do that movie twice now and it still sucks! While we're on those lines, how about a "Dungeons & Dragons" remake? This time, you make it good. :) Heck, I want a remake of all my favorite geek fandom movies that went to the big screen and sucked. So yes, put a remake of "Street Fighter" on that list too!

Anways, seriously . . . yes, I would love to see a "Tron" sequel. Not remake, but a kick butt sequel. Also, I would love to see another "Flash Gordon" movie. Or even a "John Carter of Mars" (which I hear they're working on or trying to get started or whatever ... translates to: stuck in Hollywood limbo).

Wait... then how would you fit "Yippeee!" in?

And it makes so much more sense having them explain midichlorians to a little kid than to a teenager, so you'd probably have to get rid of them, as well...

You'd destroy everything that makes The Phantom Menace the film it is!

Why yes, that's exactly what I meant to say! Well, not exactly. They can keep any Darth Maul lightsaber scenes, except possibly the cheesy cut in half thing at the end.
