What OGL/D20 games do you guys own or play?

I'm currently running the Poly mini-game Omega World and Dragon Lords of Melnibone'. If i had to restrict myself to just one game it would be a version of D&D. Maybe Iron Kingdoms, that one sounds cool.

Ok, let us change this up. If youcould play only one D20/OGl game for the rest of your life ( assume complete support) which would you choose?
-Of the d20 and OGl games you have played in which ddi you Prefer and why?
-Of the games you have GMed which did you prefer and why?

Honestly Call of Cthulhu:

I have DM'd and played in both. There are alot of reasons, but I will go over the main points.
1) It has one of the most complete source books that I have ever read. It is an all in one book with 2 scenerios and great tools for a GM.
2) It can be 2 different styles of game really easy (even more so that D&D I think). It sets up great for a HEAVY rp session with lots of research and planing and thought. Or you can have Heavy combat with lots of slimy messy bad guys, huge spell list that any PC can use, artifacts that pack a punch, and templats for bad guys (I know that CoC is not ment to be played this way, but it CAN be and Pulp Cthulhu is going to show this aspect a bit more).
3) You have almost as much supplemental material as D&D over the past few decades that can almost all be converted with little effort through the conversion methods in either the back of the d20 Sourcebook, or the GM Pack. Unlike D&D which goes through massive facelifts and requires alot of footwork to convert, I can almost convert BRP CoC stats to d20 Stats in my head.
4) It has supplemental material to cover almost *any time era*. This is from a Fantasy midevil setting ( Cthulhu Dark Ages a FREE CoC supplemental) The 1890's (Cthulhu By Gaslight) the 1920's and the present time. This is a very all encompasing thing and you dont need a new set of rules for each thing (like d20 modern/future)
5) Inspired by H.P. Lovecraft.

There are my reasons, others probably have different opinions.

  • Forgotten Realms (but I'd sneak Call of Cthulhu in under my shirt ;) )
  • Call of Cthulhu. See Shapermc's response.
  • My Forgotten Realms campaign, mainly because of the time my players and I have put into it. Running a close second would be Spycraft just because it's real fun to run.

Apart from D&D3e:

Traveller T20
Dragonlords of Melniboné
Wheel of Time

Of these, I run T20 and D&D3e- that's about all I have time for. I do get to play in a Buffy RPG game, but that's not d20.

D&D3e [only d20/OGL game I'd pay for from WotC]
Spycraft
Mutants and Masterminds
M&M Mecha

None. But if I really was forced to play a d20/OGL game, it'd be Mutants and Masterminds because its a flexible enough system that I could create any game, any genre, etc. with it and have a good and fun game.

Of the d20 and OGL games you have played in which did you Prefer and why?

Mutants and Masterminds. Its fun, its fairly fast, and its flexible!

Of the games you have GMed which did you prefer and why?

Mutants and Masterminds. Its a lot more fun to GM than D&D usually is. I attribute it to being more flexible of system that players can do more with, without having to constantly monitor for balance.

Having said that, I do enjoy our current Forgotten Realms campaign and look forward to taking the players through a modified City of the SpiderQueen campaign.

M&M

Though I haven't convinced any of my friends to try mutants and masterminds (they're all hooked on heros) I really like it. It's flexible, but a little less daunting than the heros system, especially for new people leraning the rules.

After looking over the DM screen for Heroes.... I'm glad I never have to DM :)

In the order I bought them

d20 Deadlands (and some supplements)
Star Wars
PsiHB
Spycraft (and the Series Archer setting)
Farscape
M&M

I got original got the first four in my quest to find alternate magic and psionic rules. Then I got Farscape and had the most fun running a 1st level game ever (and ususally I HATE playing and running d20 below level 4) until the errata ruined the game's current flavor (characters were a lot tougher, but when they got hit, they went down fast, after the errata the characters got a lot weaker, but the guns didn't). MnM showed up at this time and things got back to being fun and wild.
