i like GURPS for sci fi, but i'm ardently looking forward to d20 Future, because Modern rocked.

i've played Traveller, but like Wombat mentioned, the retro-hard SF, death during character creation, focus on military/merchants only, and lack of character advancement really turned me off. GURPS Traveller has some good books out, though.

i've played both WEG and d20 Star Wars -- i like the d20 version better. we've been having a blast with it.

i got Darwin's World 2e (the d20 Modern version) for Xmas and it's a great book. i want to give it a test drive soonest.

for mecha sci fi games, i've still got my old beat-up copy of R. Talsorian's Mekton Zeta. great build system for the mecha, but the core engine doesn't work for me...

i have Space 1889 and Forgotten Futures, but i've never been able to get anyone else interested in the genre.

Oh, and I played a great variant of Space: 1889 where we used the HarnMaster rules instead of the base rules -- much better the play that way! I love the setting! :)

Hey yeah! I forgot Space: 1889. The setting was cool, provided that you couldd block out the sound of the grinding teeth of those players who know how to sail a boat. (I was in at the dentist this morning, getting crowns on those teeth). And provided no-one used liftwood to make a perpetual-motion machine.

But the resolution systems was an excrescence. We switched over to HERO System, and then to ForeSight.

Traveller:2300 and its second edition, 2300 AD were probably my favorites (http://anch_stevec.crosswinds.net), although Universe was also refreshingly different.

For cyberpunk, ShadowRun.

I recall much hype about Paranoia, but it always seemed too silly to be fun, to me (I hate most modern comedy movies, too).

None of the other Traveller books ever interested me (although they might have, if I'd found the right group to play with).

The original Gamma World was more Sci-Fantasy, but it could be fun. None of the later versions were the same, for me...

Blue Planet and Transhuman Space! But I'm also very excited about D20 Future, and in particular adapting the above two settings to it to make them more pallatable for my group (lots of groaning insues whenever I mention learning a new set of rules).

Star Frontiers!

Well, OK, the game never really caught on. I liked it.

I suppose I should like Traveller in one form or another. It was created in my home town :).

I've Read through the rules on Trinity, Hero, shadowrun and Mechwarrior but I never found a group any of them with.

I've played the old d6 Star Wars, Rifts (I still think it's a good game, it just has flaws), CyberPunk, CyberGen, Gamma World (The one out around mid 2nd ed D&D), Robotech and Tales from the Floating Vagabond.

hmm, maybe I'm a sci-fi gamer at heart?

Oh, yeah. I forgot to mention the original Gamma World (only played the first version) in my post above above, and it's predecessor, Metamorphosis Alpha (we switched to GW1 when it was released).

I guess there have been close to half a dozen versions of MA/GW by now...

Alternity. And my d20 Modern games have had far more influence from Alternity than any kind of modern fantasy/Urban Arcana, too.

I'm also seriously hoping to see a good chunk of Star*Drive in d20 Future.
