D&D General What Sort Of Dragon Would Live Here?

Are we limited here to dragons that currently appear in 5e? Or can we suggest dragons from earlier D&D editions and those from other RPGs such as Pathfinder? curious

Can suggest them as I said I thought of mist dragons.

Pathfinder I only have the 1st bestiary or 2 from PF1.

Pathfinder 1st edition has about 7 groups of True Dragons- Chromatic, Metallic, Imperial, Primal, Esoteric, Planar and Outer. For this setting idea, I'll limit it to just Chromatic, Metallic, Imperial and Primal.

Imperial Dragons are basically Pathfinder's take on the Oriental Dragons from 2e. I could see some of them flying over to Zealandia from Asia in order to claim some territory for themselves. They consist of Forest, Sea, Sky, Sovereign and Underworld Dragons.

Though you are more likely to find them on an elemental plane than the Material Plane, there might be areas in Zealandia where the former has a notable influence on the latter. This is where you might find the Primal Dragons. They consist of Brine, Cloud, Crystal, Magma and Umbral Dragons.

Well in a fantasy setting you can turn it up to11. You meat active Volcano right?

I wouldn't use earth map but might use Zealandia. No one will recognize it

I'd say green dragons, though I think moonstone dragons might be an interesting choice. Either way, perhaps the dragons have scales of greenstone as a visual change.

Green would still work jades not that common and is found in the rivers.

I'd have new dragons inspired by native New Zealand fauna, extinct or extant.

No need to stat them up as new dragons though, just reskin an existing dragon. Change the name and describe it as appearing different and it doesn't matter if the numbers are the same as an existing dragon, especially if the PCs never find out!

Instead of Copper Dragons, maybe Zealandia's mountains are inhabited by mischievous, inquisitive and talkative parrot like dragons.

Venture into the moa-inhabited forests and shrub lands and you risk being devoured by terrifying eagle like dragons with the stats of a Chromatic Dragon, maybe with a damage type swap (e.g. a White Dragon that has Poison damage/defenses like a Green Dragon or a Red that spews Acid like a Black).

…and so on.
