In my continued quest to find the world’s most mediocre turn-based tactics game, I’ve been having a go at the 2012 adaption of Warhammer Quest. It’s a pretty shallow dungeon crawler: kill monsters, get loot, repeat. Despite the repetitiveness, I found it entertaining enough; it’s a good gameplay loop and the occasional overwrought Warhammer writing is funny enough. It can be actually difficult, too: if you roll badly on random encounters you can get quickly overwhelmed by high-level monsters. Overall I rather liked it as something to pick up, bash out a mission or two, and then forget about for another week or so. I just wish they’d made the mechanics more transparent- there’s clearly a lot of dice rolling behind the scenes and I’d love to have seen the numbers.
