I remember a friend and I were in a game run by his uncle for us, he was using an adventure out of dragon. I think I was an elven fighter, and there were these things shooting at us in the woods. We eventually found out they were in this giant hollowed out tree. So i don't remember anything but arrows wizzing at me but I think I got one. So take that you stinking drow. The woods are ours.
I can't remember if I killed them but my first combat was with a nightmare, a succubus and Asmodeous(sp). It took me a long time to learn how to play a normal game after that.
You know, I honestly don't remember the first game I played in. I remember my first game--Moldvay red boxed set--but I was trying to run it, not play in it. The party consisted of my Dad, bless him for humoring a 9-year-old.
I do remember that the first monster he killed was an invisible stalker.
I started playing D&D as the DM, so it was awhile before I got my first official solo kill. That said, it was a fellow party member. I was a chaotic neutral (turned evil after this mishap) grey elf wizard. My 'friend' was playing a human fighter who had just been given some honorary title. While the ceremonies were under way, a ghost came to me and asked me to avenge his death by killing my friend. He promised me 100gp and a magic item, so I said, 'ok'. I got on a hill, set up my defenses, and toasted him, and his companions, with a fireball. We had just come from Ravenloft, so I should have known better ... I didn't get my reward, but I did make my friend cry over his dead character .
