What was this movie

Zelda Themelin

I'd love to have some help. I was thinking one movie I have very vague memories. It's sort of fantasy/detective/lovecraftian story. There is detective, virgin girl, unicorn, wizard dad who wants to sacrifice his daughter to gain power (well gain something anyway).

It had other fantastic creatures too and world time line was around 1950 I think.

Movie was in theaters somewhere around 1995-2002

Well other than the unicorn, Cast a Deadly Spell may be it but don't think so.

More info needed.

There is a unicorn in Cast A Deadly Spell, however briefly. I concur with jhilahd's concurance.

Why isn't that movie out on DVD? That's been mentioned over and over in various Geek places (like here) so many times, I just have to see it, but I can't, since it's not on DVD.

I've been wondering where to find it as well. I think it was originally tv-movie. If anyone knows if there is any dvd-version out I'd like find that film. I was thinking what was name of that film I kinda vaguely remember, because it was very interesting and fun when I saw it first time. I'd love to show it to my friends.

After finding out name of the film I run into sad fact that it's nowhere to be found. Well, maybe someday.

If anyone out there knows where to get it please share with us.

Thanks :)

"Revealing mistakes: The guide wire on the oatmeal demon is visible as it flies to attack the restaurant manager."

Oh hell! Now I HAVE to see it.

Yeah, it definitely needs a DVD release. It was an HBO movie production, not a network TV movie. So you might want to try leaning on them.

There was also a sequel made called "Witch Hunt", but it didn't star Fred Ward and simply wasn't nearly as good.

One suggestion for finding it would be to hit your local video rental place. It was easily available for rent on video tape at most Blockbuster video stores.

I saw it two years ago at the H. P. Lovecraft Film Festival in Portland, Oregon. The writer was there, introducing the film. He said that it got made when HBO would throw money at any project that came along. He also said that he's sure Julianne Moore cringes any time anyone asks her about it. ;)
