What Will D&D4 Mean to the Enworld Boards?

I've always thought of EnWorld as primarily a 3e board.

Will this stay true? Or will it become a 4e board?

What I guess I'd like to see it become is a general D&D/fantasy RPG board, covering all editions of D&D from OD&D to 4e, with related fantasy RPGs fair game as well.

I'm not much of a member but I don't really have an internet home right now. I don't like rpg.net's splitting of the D&D boards, I'm too much of a grognard to be comfortable at the wizards boards, and while I love Dragonsfoot, I'm not an old-school purist either. The rpgsite is pretty good and all, but there are some issues there as well.

Will the future EnWorld be a good place for me? If not, any tips for where I should be hanging out are appreciated.

WotC has kidsy forums. Adults play on Enworld. I'm not kidding of course. This is like the equivalent of Tortuga whilst WotC/gleemax is the guys in the funny powdered wigs.

Yeah. At best, EN World is the working-class part of Port Royal. ;)

rec.games.frp.dnd is the real Tortuga.

Considering the amount of pre-Third Edition talk, and discussion about nostalgia-based revivals of pre-Third Edition games like OSRIC and Castles and Crusades, that we already have on EN World, I don't see why we wouldn't see the same thing happening next year.

I hope that EN World won't become the Dragonsfoot of Third Edition, at least as much because I'd hate for so many people here to become so bitter about Fourth Edition as because I'd like to still come to EN World for my D&D conversations if I play the new game.

4E means EN World will get clogged with meaningless worry threads.

Also, snarky replies.

I think ENWorld will survive just fine. I think most of the posters here enjoyed 1E and 2E, currently play 3E, and are looking forward to 4E.

That is the worst possible scenario, as far as I'm concerned. That said, I think that the community at ENWorld is less about One True Way-ism than many fan forums. I, for example, have never been "shut down" by moderation for discussing games other than D&D here, nor have I ever seen somebody engaging in productive discussion of other D&D editions threatened with mod action here. I have seen both of these things with alarming frequency at other fan forums (which, incidentally, is why I choose to post at ENWorld). I think that ENWorld will weather the coming storm just fine -- some of the posters may not, though I have faith that this will not be because of some fascist edition-specific moderation but because of inappropriate conduct on their part.

Well, I would hope that [the people of] EnWorld is big enough to allow content of both editions to be discussed and civil enough to allow mature conversations without igniting edition wars.
