What will you/do you use for marks?

The dead+3-1 notation means that a dead (dying actually) character has made 3 saves and failed one, since he went down.
Out of curiosity, why do you record the number of passed saves for a dying character?

That is a good question. Probably because I at some point thought (for some reason) that 3 saves = stabilized.

Obviously, there is no need to do so.

Cheers

Good Morning, All:

I would suggest using the following for "marked":
http://www.litkoaero.com/page/LAI/CTGY/CTOK
(Get a numbered sequence set, and assign numbers to each person to demonstrate who has marked what targets...)

I would also suggest the following for "bloodied":
http://www.litkoaero.com/page/LAI/PROD/TS/TS010-WHT

Alternately, you could use the different colored pipe cleaner loops for "marked" and glass beads for "bloodied", but the above are just cooler, in my opinion.

I bought the Alea Tools as well. But I like the idea of the Jumbo markers on Amazon for Large Creatures.

Now I just need to write up a list of what colors go with what conditions and go from there. :)

I have that whiteboard init tracker thing (which I love) and I just use that. When I put the paladin on the whiteboard I put a 1 next to him, and a 2 next to the fighter. When the paladin marks something I put a 1 next to the thing on the whiteboard.

I'm not putting a physical indicator on the battlemat--as I haven't found any need for it yet. I'm actually pretty sure there's no need for the mark on the initiative tracker, because every time I said, "The dragon ignores your challenge and bites at the cleric who keeps healing you."

"He's marked, -2 to hit and 8 damage!"

I'm pretty sure I had just acknowledged the mark, and he reminded me anyway.

(I had a ranger that was throwing cottonballs at the minis yelling, "HUNTERS QUARRY! HUNTERS QUARRY!" so don't get the impression I have an overly serious table.)

This here is awesome.

Is memory allowed?

If not then I'm cheating. I don't think visuals will need to be used at my table for the marked condition. You only can mark one thing, so it's pretty easy for the person to remember "He's my mark."

Knowing how my games go, we'll go with a mix of whatever change we have in our pockets alongside stray objects we leave in whatever room of whoever's house we're playing in.

"Wait, so the pawn chess piece, that's the king?"
"Right."
"Why not use the king chess piece?"
"All I could find was a pawn! Now, do you want your penny to attack the pen cap or not?"

That was so funny. :D I bet the pen cap got hurt :D

My last session which included 3 PCs (Paladin and Fighter) against 4 NPCs really didn't need markers of any kind. The Fighter has marked the ones he is fighting, while the Paladin has marked a specific one. Not hard to remember. The players will remind me if I forget. The monsters - well, if I don't remember who has marked what, it doesn't really matter. I will remember correctly 90% of the time, and that is good enough for me. ;)
