What Would Far Realm Creatures Do With 31 Dead Goblins?

Use any of the great ideas in this thread.....but there are now 32 dead goblins (if the PCs know how many there were) or 42 (if you need to make it obvious). Whatever the PCs do, if they leave this area and go back, there are only 31 dead goblins. In fact, if the PCs count them more than once in this room, for whatever reason, they are back to 31 dead goblins.

Also, after meeting the goblins, the PCs keep seeing things moving out of the corners of their eyes, sliding shadows and strange distortions in the walls/floor/air; this may give them a circumstance penalty of some sort.

This goes away after their next encounter is completed, but the PCs all have a strange feeling that something is now riding upon the back of one PC. Detection spells reveal nothing. Mention this only once, and confirm it only if the players ask, "Yes, it still feels that way." This has no game effect whatsoever, and can last as long as you like (possibly resolving itself as an encounter of some sort; possibly something animates the PC's body if he dies, etc.).

The goblins are half sunk into the stone floor, seemingly partially fused with the stone. Strange fungal growths - some several feet tall - have grown out of their bodies, but upon closer inspection it is realized that the bodies are slightly dessicated, and the 'fungus' is made entirely of animal flesh. Perhaps strange mouth like orifices suddenly open or close, as if gasping at the air, or perhaps strange tentacle like growths - like something from a reef or sea sponge or cucumber - move about. Maybe an eye like thing opens and gazes upon them before closing - leaving no seam to show that an eye was ever there. A strange ichor oozes from a few of the bodies - perhaps a type of ooze creature? Some parts of the wall seem different - different types of stone, perhaps veined with what appears to be metal - but upon touch the metal veins feel waxy, and suddenly looks more like long dead flesh. Maybe parts of the wall are glowing - in alien 'colors' that include darkness as a hue (decreasing ambient light if the torch is moved to near it, making it a little obvious. The bodies might also show a few changes: limbs now covered (in patches or in whole) with fur, scales, or clammy frog-like skin. Maybe a few of the eyes are no longer quite right - appearing entirely black or even insectile. Some of the goblins - despite having been left dead, show expressions or horror, shock, or agony well beyond what they might have shown when they died. Perhaps their souls remain in the room, partially destroyed, partially fused with the flesh or walls or growths. Looking overly close at the walls might show vague - but moving - impressions of the faces of some of the goblins - trapped in a moment of horror / agony but unable to pass on or even exit the wall, too warped in whatever mind might be left to them to be capable of communication, let alone informing what happened there.

Any of this work for you?

On occasion, when it is the worst time for it to happen, there is a spike with an undead goblin head stuck on it holler-en that the PC's 'ARE OVER HERE!'.

It only happens 31 times.

They have been returned to life, but their arms, legs, and tongues have been surgically removed, forcing them to squirm around like worms on the floor. Moreover, the missing limbs have been placed on the cavern floor to form the shape of stars, and these star shapes seem to be placed purposefully throughout the cavern (PCs with Arcana may recognized the pattern as some constellation associated with unluck/evil/madness). The missing limbs, however, are also the only food source left in the cavern, so the dismembered goblins have been forced to resort to eating them to cling to their pitiful lives.

This should force the PCs to make the awful decision of whether to try and rehabilitate the goblins, or just slaughter them then and there and put them out of their misery. If they choose to kill them, have the goblins try to squirm away, looks of terror on their faces and non-syllabic wails coming from their tongue-less mouths, but don't have the PCs make attack rolls or anything, it should be clear that the mere decision to kill them means they die. The challenge here isn't hitting the goblins, it's whether to hit them or not.

Any of the above, but the horrible creatures from the far realm didn't finish the job yet, and the PC's interrupt them mid-task.

ZGF!

ZOMBIE GOBLIN FOOTBALL!

You have enough for two teams of 11, 1 coach for each team, and a 7 man referee crew (Referee, umpire, head linesman, line judge, field judge, side judge, back judge).

Now you just need to find some dead elf cheerleader zombies.

I'm getting tons of inspiration for my game in this thread. I simply must put some Far Realms stuff into my campaign.

Oh, it's fantastic. Our last session had the PCs tromping through the lower intestine of a mindflayer turned inside out and squeezing through sphincters. Fun stuff there. Well, not for the PCs. :)
