D&D 5E What Would You Play With These Stats?

One of my players rolled up a PC. I think she done well anyway. Rolled in front of me and I allow 1 roll.Tough luck if you roll bad.

She decided to play a Hill Dwarf Dragon Sorcerer as I told her I would prefer it if she did not go for a race with a charisma bonus or something like a half elf.

If it was my PC I would have gone for a mountain dwarf wild sorcerer- tank around in medium armor and hit stuff with your axe until level 5 or more. I would also consider a valor bard or bladelock or other gish type PC that kind of needs MAD more than other classes.

Wow - tell your player to come roll for me! I need stats like that!

Seriously though, they could throw darts at a wall with the classes on it and make it successful. There's no downside to your lowest modifier being "only" a +1.

Those are fine stats. I'd play whatever I wanted to with them, with a few examples below.

Fighter
Str 17, Dex 14, Con 17, Int 13, Wis 14, Cha 14

Cleric
Str 17, Dex 13, Con 14, Int 14, Wis 17, Cha 14

Rogue
Str 13, Dex 17, Con 14, Int 14, Wis 17, Cha 14

Wizard
Str 13, Dex 17, Con 14, Int 17, Wis 14, Cha 14

Of course, I'd also be asking why you'd prefer I not take something with a charisma bonus. And, I want to know if you made that same request to other players.

Just so she did not take something like a half elf and start the game with double 18's. Her stats are already high I have not seen the other players stats yet.

Ah, so you're working on the assumption that she is going to pick a race because its stat mods synergize with the 17s to give high primary stats. I had not made that assumption.

For example, I would have no problem selecting the half elf race for any of the examples I provided (none of whom use Cha as their primary stat). Now, I would have a problem selecting the half elf simply because I don't like that race (after playing for a couple decades I find that many of the traditional options feel somewhat bland to me. That's why I've used tweaks like making characters that are cursed, insane, monstrous, or suffering from persistent physical ailments like consumption or epilepsy), but that's a separate concern for me.

I would play a variant human bard. Str 13 (14 w/human), dex 14, con 17, int 14, wis 14, cha 17 (18 w/human). Pick a bonus skill, and pick the feat Alert.
But with those stats anything is possible.

The pair of 17's?

Either a Wood Elf Monk, or a Tiefling Warlock. Probably go with a Book Pact Warlock of the Old Ones. They're just plain munchkin.

Wood Elf:
Str 14
Dex 19
Con 17
Int 14
Wis 15
Cha 13

Tiefling
Str 14
Dex 14
Con 17
Int 14
Wis 14
Cha 19

In my opinion there too good, as you have the ability to bump stats up. I would lower two of the 17's to 10 and change a 14 to an 8 ( to give a slight handy cap). I would go with a renegade dwarven warlock, who has an infliction that makes him a bit unhealthy. A chronic cough and blotchy beard, can call him Kackle Durgolb of the Grimeye Clan, Smokes cigars which does not help.

Did you have your players roll stats in order?

Otherwise it's a nonsense question in 5e IMHO. Why would anyone choose class based on stats rolls if re-arranging them is allowed?
