What's Pun-Pun?

I see the name "Pun-Pun" come up now and again, but I have no idea what/who the hell it is. Someone help me out here! It sounds like maybe it's some anime thing?

It's an example of character "optimization" gone wrong, typically brought up on the WotC forums. I'm sure someone here knows the details better, but it starts by giving a kobold a template that makes him a divine emissary.

It originates from the WotC character optimization boards, where it was first used as the name of a hypothetical character implementing the most broken build ever to grace the forum. It revolved around the Sarrukh's 'alter form' ability, with a kobold and his familiar/psicrystal/whatever gaining access to it somehow (there are multiple methods) and more or less instantly achieving omnipotence by abusing it. Effectively infinite ability scores, every feat and special ability ever printed, etc. The short name caught on when referring to it in discussion, and it came up often because really, what tops it?

A rediculous misinterpretation of the rules, abused to create an interested Kobold that achieves something exceeding divinity by thrid level or something similar.

Usually, it is an expression of power gaming gone completely mad, lead by a blind DM with a short attention span.

No one has actually to my knowledge actually played with Pun-Pun. It was so rediculously overpowered: IIRC, it had an unlimited stats, and could emulate almost any ability.

Right; Pun-Pun is more of an excercise in how the rules can be exploited if the DM doesn't put some smackdown on his players.

Well, I think it's safe to say that Chuck Norris's mustache, at least, is Supernatural, Spell-Like, and Extraordinary.
