What's the big stink about Rappan Athuk Reloaded?

Everybody wants it beacuse it rules. It is the most famous and feared dungeon of all time (by the way, dont confuse "largest" with "best"). It is a true classic. It has been praised by industry professionals. Erik Mona is dying for me to send him a copy. I think RA will be there when we look back as a classic of 3E and I am really proud to have been a part of it. It was an original flaghsip product for Necromancer Games and it has finally gotten the treatment that it deserves--updated, expanded, gathered into one product, new maps all consistent and totally killer, great product plan, super-usable format, killer cover.

It is a boxed set with 3 interior books: (1) room by room descriptions, (2) monster stats and npcs and other stuff, (3) maps.

RA, in my humble opinion, is the ultimate dungeon crawl in that true first edition feel style. If you like that, you will love it.

I dont mean to pimp my own product here, but I am geeked about it. I hope that answers your question.

Oh, and while it is true that it is sold out of our warehouse, that does not mean that it is unavailable. It is available. Go to your local gamestore or non-discount online retailer and ask for it. Alliance (our distributor) has it.

Enjoy!

Famous, eh? I've never heard of it, or ever heard anyone mention anything about it before. Was it primarily a convention game or something?

And feared...? Well, I may have to buy it and see. Maybe. ;)

Exactly.

It captures the spirit of 1E, it's got lots of places the PCs will probably never see, but if they do, they will really feel like they accomplished something.

It's not balanced for your PCs (i.e., they'd better know when to run), it's not going to hand-hold them through the adventure, and it's not expected that all of your PCs will survive.

However, the encounters are very cool and it is a blast to play.

Most famous dungeon? Surely that is a jest.

I don't know about most famous, I've never done a survey, but most feared? You bet! At least in my group, it is. Nothing makes the players shudder more than me saying that they might be going back to Rappan Athuk in the near future.

I recently talked to an old gaming buddy that I hadn't seen in a while. He asked if we were still playing D&D, and what campaign we were doing. I said yes, and that we were going to be playing in Rappan Athuk yet again. He paused for a minute, as if trying to remember something, and said, "Is that the dungeon with the invincible poop golem... The one with Orcus at the end?"
I said yes, and he simply replied, "Oh :):):):)... Well... Tell them I said good luck, and to remember not to go down the well!"

I <3 that dungeon so much!

At the risk of being a sycophant, I'll back Orcus up on this. There have only been three dungeons that have sent my gaming groups fleeing for their lives. Undermountain, one dungeon of my own make (though I cheated by tricking them into thinking that the vampire at its heart was Strahd), and Rappan Athuk.

Yet they always came back, for the rewards are as great as the risks.

All true, and yet I still am willing to put 10 bucks in an Necromancer Games office pool that Tomb of Abysthor is the one that becomes "legend" :)
