What's the big stink about Rappan Athuk Reloaded?

I bought the first one, didn't care for it. Necromancers style is not to my liking, though it's got plenty of fans. I'd definetly advise buying one of the cheaper adventures before you spend money on Reloaded.

As for "famous and feared", it's famous in it's circles, but overall it's no more known than lots of lesser products. I mean, if it was so famous, the demand would far outstrip 1000 copies.

Actually, if I recall properly the original Apan Athak is available in a series of PDFs on Drive Thru RPG.... Let me check....

Yep, Here it is. It is just a hair under $5, so if you want you can give it a look over. If it appeals to you then I suspect that you will like the expanded, deluxe, boxed, signed (am I missing anything?) edition.

Not quite my cup of tea, but very, very, old school. I can understand people liking it a great deal. :)

Well, I doubt I'll get to use it again for a while, my group went through thr whole thing a few years back, I dunno if I want to spend 70 bucks for one book of new levels. I already had random encounters and wilderness encounters from Necros product downloads, plus MoAT. I'll probably wait and try and snatch a copy off EBAY in a few years.

Your call JRR, but I honestly think you're missing out on some great treats. If you want to snatch a copy, you might have to wait longer than "a few years." Just my opinion.

Grump,

I'm old school and I love Orcus. It was a match made in the Abyss. ;) Plus the new cover ROCKS!

Yeah well how many copies of Undermountain or World's Largest Dungeon sell? I'm sorry but while they might not have gotten as many as people wanted, they did meet the demand.

It's the dungeon that had a TPK before the party ever even entered the dungeon! It's where "Two-Feats" the halfling became "No-Feets"! It's where barging in through the front door got multiple party members killed (well, carted off by green gargoyles) before ever rolling a single d20!

It's very old school, as in "there it is, enter if you dare, what you find is what you find, and you'd better know when to run". What's there is what's there, and it's up to the players to figure out how to beat it, not depend on Encounter Levels and Challenge Ratings to pretend balance everything.

Heh...I can't wait to get my copy. I'm currently running our group through a Goodman Games adventure, leading up to Red Hand of Doom.

After that, I'd like to introduce our group to the awesome meatgrinder...errr, dungeon that is Rappan Athuk.

FWIW, I think RA will be remembered among the best dungeons of all time.

*cheers on Bad* I wish I could say that...but so far I've yet to run it in RL...and I'm afraid of what will happen in an online game...

All true, and yet I still am willing to put 10 bucks in an Necromancer Games office pool that Tomb of Abysthor is the one that becomes "legend" :)
Exactly my thoughts. Although it is, indeed, probably the most (in)famous d20 dungeon, the laurels belong to Tomb of Abysthor. Which is not to say RA is "bad". It is Tomb which is great!
