What's the big stink about Rappan Athuk Reloaded?

Well it might be closer to 45... but we'll see Flexy. After all you do get a greater discount from members of DTRRPG's "family" than you do some others. Still have to wait and see.

Barak,

The average gamer hasn't heard of HALF the stuff that is truly good

I'd never heard of it either admittedly, but the whole '1st edition feel' really isn't my thing at all, so I don't follow up on much of what Necromancer produces. But that aside, if my preferred style of game wasn't so different (no standard dungeon crawls and more RP), RAR (or any previous RA release) probably lost any chance of me looking at it or spending $ on it simply from the statement that it was the "dungeon with the invincible poop golem".

Does that accurately describe something in the product?

I'll gladly pay up to 25 bucks for it as a .pdf. Maybe 30

I agree on the $25.00, but we might get lucky and see $35 if they charge less than they normally do. Otherwise we are looking at the $50 to $60 US price range, closer to $50.00.

I refuse to buy a pdf that close to retail. I do not accept the reasons for doing so. The fact is that it is not print, doesn't require shipping, and doesn't require shelf space. 30% of retail is a "fair" price. Anything higher is a rip off and I refuse to be ripped off.

That is my opinion and it is not going to change. I'm in/own a retail/wholesale business too. Granted, it isn't media, but many of the same principles apply. Above 30% is a rip off of the consumer, IMO and experience.

Well there is a poop golem of sorts Shemmy but that's the the entirity of the dungeon by any means.

Tree,

True, I think when it comes to PDFs we should get a greater discount since the fact is a) this is an electronic format and b) cheapness online helps generate good will.

As far as most feared, Hall of Many Panes is rapidly getting that reputation at my table, RA probably comes in at third, behind HoMP and S2.

Barak,

The average gamer hasn't heard of HALF the stuff that is truly good and thinks that anything non-WotC is "not offical enough" for their games. Even though the word offical has about as much meaning as dung.

That's super. And true. And yet.. It has absolutely no bearing in making Rappan Attuk (however the thing is spelled) more famous or feared. Actually, it helps prove my point, that there is no way in Hades it is the most Famous or Feared module. So thanks, dude!

Well, that's sort of the point. If half the gamers have not heard of anything not from WotC, than how can RA be more famous than something from WotC?

Adventures are subjective, plenty of folks like RA, plenty of folks don't.

As for "most feared", it's easy enough to kill off a party, so I don't see how that's a mark of a good product. I've already gone over it in other threads, and it comes down to if you like Necromancers style or not.

Realisitcally, your right. But that still doesn't make Tegal Manor any less of a great classic to those who know of it and own it. Same thing about Rappan Athuk and Tomb of Abysthor. To those of us who own them, we know how great they are. Plus Rainbow Mage and several other exceptional modules put out by Necromancer.

So to those of us who know better, Rappan Athuk is the best and deadliest of all 3E modules. There are deadlier, such as Black Ice Well (that just may have been me, I am in touch with my "adversarial" side), but RA is great and deadly.

:\

Grognard with 28 yrs of XP...and I have never heard of Rappan Athuk until this month- it can't be THAT famous.

Would I buy RAR? I'm thinking about it- I've heard good things about it. If I see it, I'll give it serious consideration.

If its a limited edition, as it seems to be from what I've read, then so be it.

I've been gaming for 21 years and got it when it first came out, because of my love for Crucible of Freya. That was in 2000? 2001? Some of us old vampires just know how to use the internet to be aware of the new stuff. ;)

If you liked Lost caverns of Tsojanth and Temple of Tharizdun, get RA:R.
