What's the Deal with Staves?

They costs way more than wands and typically have only a handful of charges before they turn into an inert stick. What gives here? What am I missing?

This:

"This means that staffs are far more potent in the hands of a powerful spellcaster. Because they use the wielder’s ability score to set the save DC for the spell, spells from a staff are often harder to resist than ones from other magic items, which use the minimum ability score required to cast the spell. Not only are aspects of the spell dependant on caster level (range, duration, and so on) potentially higher, but spells from a staff are harder to dispel and have a better chance of overcoming a target’s spell resistance."

Is that enough of an explanation, or should I be more specific?

Imagine:

Make a Wand of Fireballs. CL 5th Market price: 11,250gp

Make a "Staff of Fireballs", CL 5th Market Price: 11,250gp

Now....have a 10th level wizard use each. Which does more damage? :)

They can also have spell levels 5-9 in them that wands cannot, one staff can hold many spells in it and a wand can only hold a single spell.

Nail hit the main reason on the head ( ) but these are other things that makes staves great.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, there isn't the same limit on the maximum level of spell you can put in the staff. Wands can only hold up to 4th-level spells. So you could have, for example, a Staff with Chain Lightning in it, which I believe is a no-no for wands.

Edit: Gaah! That's it. I'm not posting any more unless a thread is idle for at least a day.
That is: I've been beaten to the submit button again. :)
