What's up with B.A.D.D.?

They are an organization that has some great advice for using Dragons and making them feared, as they should be. Since 3rd edition came out it seems more people are using Dragon and allowing PCs to walk all over them.

They have a web site and some very good sample dragons written up. I don't have it bookmarked, but last time I was there they had some great things on it.

Interesting. I can't say that I agree all dragons should be feared. Respected? Definitely. Feared? Not necessarily. There are many categories of dragon, and as characters improve the "fear factor" of a lot of those categories diminishes or is gone altogether, while the greater ones require great power or preparation to deal with, but that's no different than any monster.

I'm not part of the orginazation, so my explanation might not be 100% on. You might want to post this question on the General Board and with luck someone can point you to the Web Site and do a better job of explaining what they do then I can.

B.A.D.D. came about because there were a lot of posts at the time describing dragons as weak and underpowered. What was actually happening is that they were not being played to the fullest of their abilities. So several of us started putting things together and I put up a web site.

Haven't updated in months, basically because I stopped getting submissions. But there's still a ton os good stuff on there. With all the BADD discussions that went on there hasn't been as many posts like 'My party with five times the treasure they should have beat a wyrm red at 8th level when I let them walk into its cave and find it sleeping - Why did they make dragons so weak!!!11!1!'

So there isn't actually as much of a need for it nowadays.

All right, so are you gonna tell me how you guys killed that Fiendish Green Dragon or what?

Computer error. The DM used PC Gen to create the Dragon and apply the template to it and halfway through the fight he realized that some of the stats were way off. For instance the breathe weapon was listed as 5d6 instead of 10d6. Also, the attack bonus was off by a few points. So, it breathed and we didn't take as much damage as we should have. Then the main fighter used Expertise and the Dragon had a hard time hitting him. When the Dragon breathed again, the DM used the 10d6 damage. Becasue we took so little damage from the first breathe weapon my character (the cleric healing people) and the main fighter who did all the damage would have dropped. Under normal circumstances, it should have been a TPK.

Ah, I see. I made a post a while back about a character that shot down a White Dragon with his bow in 1E and that drew complaints that the encounter was played incorrectly, and had a hunch that your group was about more of the same.

"That totally cinematic and dramatic encounter was stupid! Dragons are supposed to make you pee your pants just like Bard did right before he killed Smaug!"

But I can see helping people out who just flat out don't know how to play them to their potential.
