What's up with the maps?

Looking over the last few products, what's up with the maps? It's not that they're bad or not useful, it's just they're not at the top of the game. I think that 0one and Skeleton Key Games, to new a few off the top of my head, generally make better maps.

Is it just me or ?

Well I wanted a map in The Waterdeep sourcebook, or rather I wanted a big pull out map. What I got was disappointing. I also wanted about 300 more pages to that same book.

As far as the maps go overall they have been o.k. I am really curious to see what the maps look like in their forthcoming adventures. I miss the old days with the big maps and boxed sets.

Ditto. I think that's what Psion's talking about as far as Sharn goes, as there were many min-maps and other utilities there, but none of the glorious fold out maps that are rare these days. Heck, 3rd party publishers like Necromancer seem to get it with CSIO at least.

Luckily for me I still have my Waterdeep box set from 2nd edition.

I don't know about quality of the maps; what buggered me was the total LACK of one for Sharn...
It would have been nice to see some sort of map for sharn, but in the end I like that Sharn is an infinately confusing myriad of construction not just horizontally but vertically. It's supposed to seem daunting and impossible. In fact, I suspect that if they'd have printed a map, it would have been a loathsomely incomplete waste of our money. Either that or a product all it's own with clear plastic overlays and multiple maps from multiple angles. Man that would be awesome! Sharn Map Boxed Set, take note Wotc.

A map for a city with hundreds of levels, a MILE high, and 2 miles wide by 3 miles long? YEESH! I'd rather just say, "OK, you're there." :)

I think that, for the concept, they handled the maps pretty well there. I wouldn't mind seeing some more generic "Sharn Streets", though...
