See those Ultima games I mentioned? In fact I found the whole Guardian saga good (story wise at least).

Agreed! I miss having another Ultima to look forward to; it followed me through
all of my computer gaming life.

PC:

1) PC: Star Control II (Pure, addicitive, charming fun...)

2) PC: Civ II (or maybe Civ 1?? I can't decide if being able to shoot a ship full of Babylonians to Alpha Centauri by 50 AD makes it a better or worse game...)

3) Dreamcast: Soul Calibur (My soul still burns... and no, the penicillan hasn't helped)

Right now playing World of Warcraft and Pirates! but my favorite game of all time is X-Com. CivII is a VERY close second.

I'm actually rather disappointed in Pirates! i think it's because of the dancing, mainly...

All time favorite games would have to be MOST of the FF series (and i think we all know which are excluded)

Oh, and one I'm sort of amazed no one's mentioned, : Breath of Fire... i loved that game just for the relatively decent fishing in it. I hate it when a game includes crafting of any fashion, only to wreck it by making crap.

I also liked Secret of Evermore. Loved the dog, loved the alchemy, loved the characters. Drops a rank behind Secret of Mana because of some annoying labyrinths (a hedge maze, looping palace, and confusing space station all in one game? Aargh!) and because I was never able to beat it due to an annoying glitch.
Oh man, what a great game. It was actually fairly easy and kinda short compared to Secret of Mana, but just pure fun. I wish I knew what happened to my copy of it. :(

Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 and the Throne of Bhaal expansion
I just started up a new game of BG. I'm planning on going through BG1, Tales of the Sword Coast, BG2, and then Throne of Bhaal. Should be fun. :)

My favorites:
Fighting Games: Not a big fighting game fan, but I enjoy a good game of Smash Brothers Melee every once in a while. Unfortunately, when one of my 'friends' plays, the game can make me curse like a very angry sailor...
Strategy Games: WarCraft 3, Age of Empires II
Role-Playing Games: Final Fantasy IV and VI, Baldur's Gate 1, 2, and Throne of Bhaal, Deus Ex, Planescape: Torment, and World of WarCraft
First Person Shooter: Half-Life, Half-Life 2, Unreal Tournament, UT 2004, Wheel of Time
Other: Diablo II, The Thief Series of games
Platformer: Super Mario 3, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time
All Time Favorite Game Ever: StarCraft: Brood War
Game That I Wish I had Copies of: X-Com
Most Underappreciated Game Ever: Wheel of Time - Say what you will about the series, but this game is grand. It has a level of tactical excellence in it that no other FPS has had to date. It's a little buggy and quite dated, but multiplayer was a blast. Unfortunately, seeing as only 10 people apparently bought the game, finding opponents is rather 'difficult.'

I like a lot of games, but I usually tend to play PC games nowadays, mostly because my favorite types of games usually either suck or just aren't made for console usage (FPS or RTS games) or are boring and cliched on consoles (read: most new console RPG's). I'm also a big Bioware and Blizzard fanboy.

Although I already nominated World of Warcraft as quite possibly my favorite game ever, I though I'd do my own list of favorite games in each gere.

Fighting Games: Mortal Kombat II and Street Fighter II.
Strategy Games: Warcraft III, Starcraft, Civilization II.
Role Playing Games: Baldur's Gate series, Planescape: Torment, Neverwinter Nights, Final Fantasy VI and VII.
First Person Shooter: Doom, Half-Life, Goldeneye.
Sports Game: Madden NFL 96, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005.
Other: Splinter Cell Trilogy, Diablo II, the Legend of Zelda series.
Platformer: Super Mario 3, Mario 64, Metroid series.
All Time Favorite Game Ever: Probably World of Warcraft
Game I Wish I had Copies Of: Crono Trigger. If you have an unopened copy of that game lying around, you can sell it for big bucks on eBay. :)
Most Underappreciated Game Ever: River City Ransom. A Double Dragon-style beat 'em up game with RPG elements, and one of the most addictive two-player modes ever. When I was a kid, my friends and I pulled many an all-nighter playing this game at sleepover parties.
