Ah so you'd rather have a dictionary that tells you *how* to talk, rather than a dictionary that describes how some people *actually* talk. I never thought I'd see a "prescriptive vs. descriptive dictionary" debate here! It's a librarian's dream come true! :D

Deleted an essentially correct (but less complete, despte being longer than the above link's) explanation of the situation taken from a medieval history discusion list.

I imagine that a British person might find it funny for a Canadian or American to complain about alternate pronunciations becoming official in the language, but I'm not British so I suppose that I wouldn't know for sure. Of course a middle english British person might find the same funny of a modern British person, and so on...

When correcting someone's grammar, please observe the following rules:

1) Capitalize your sentences.
2) Place a space between a word and a beginning parenthesis that follows it.
3) Place a comma after "i.e."
4) Do not place a comma between the subject and predicate of a sentence unless another rule requires the comma.
5) Spell "hideous" correctly.
6) Don't begin the sentence with "whatever"; though I'm sure this is incorrect grammar, I'm not sure what the rule is.

I hope this helps!
