D&D 5E When do you think they will announce the next book?

Have you not played through the Tyranny of Dragons storyline yet?

ToD was lacking the Armies of Darkness that I associated with the "War of the Lance".

The closest realms wide war that I have seen in Forgotten Realms was probably when the Tuigan invaded, but the Zhents used to give it a good go.

I love all of those settings, but thinking about it, the material already out there is eminently useable with 5th Ed, no real need for yet another FR campaign setting book/boxed set, we have 4 now.

If they are expanding their market new users aren't going to think "Wonder what they used to put out?" They will think "I like this stuff and want more." More means new. If 5th edition is going to be a business success it will release new setting books because people who never played will buy them.

IMO, Spelljammer is cool and awesome, but best kept away from established settings. Just like a ship-based campaign works best when there are lots of islands and few major land masses, Spelljammer works best with lots of asteroids and few big planets. Also, while Spelljammer can certainly make use of cool stuff from the Realms, Greyhawk, and Dragonlance, it can be fairly disruptive to the integrity of those settings. If you have flying ships that can encircle the globe in a matter of days or hours, distances are nullified and many exploration aspects of the setting become rather pointless.

How would it be more disruptive then being able to Teleport and/or Gate which have been in the game a lot longer then Spelljammers?

I was being somewhat facetious. It does have dragonmen and Takhisis/Tiamat being summoned into the world.

Just because it did not work the last few times you tried does not mean that you should not keep going for it.

At least she is giving it a go, eh?

As long as you don't imply Mearls promised or committed to two APs a year, I am good.
Well, I'm glad the thought police vetted me. Anyway, Mearls said is that we can expect two APs a year. He never said he promised any, that is just a strawman.

I am not sure why you keep saying "People" when you mean "I", but whatever.
Nope, when I say people, I mean people. That you do not identify with people is a separate issue.

I do not think 5th Ed's "success" is reliant on releasing campaign settings. Also, WotC has released a ton of previous edition material as PDFs (which new, younger players might actually prefer - "Mommy, what is a paperback?").

Because spelljammers can bring lots of people along, and go to previously unknown places. Also, they aren't limited to name-level characters.

Maybe it is best to not speculate about the release date of the next AP, but what it will be about. Here are sme guess.

1) Alustriel in the demiplane of Wonder. Follow Alustriel who is following a chronomancy obcess wererabbit into a magical portal!

2) Castle Manshoon. Explore the castle of D&D's most famous vampiric necromancer!

3) The Stone of Brul*. Visit the Stone of Brul, a city set on one of Selune's Tears. Meet is heteroclite NPCs and explore space on magical ships!

*I actually think the Rock of Bral is an interesting setting for an AP set in the Realms even if it is not original anymore and part of the Realms. The setting just needs to be revived and refreshed. The FR are a natural place for Bral, more than a few people set it in Selune's Tears, the asteroids that orbit Toril's moon. Having a spelljammer-like AP where some planets are visited would be fun and a change from "some cultists are summoning there god" AP. Bral is a rich place full of intrigue and colorful NPCs.
I hope they release something new, versus trying to take an old dungeon or theme and revamp it. FR is a huge place, it should not be hard to pick some niche or corner on the map that has not been explored. I was not impressed with Tyranny of Dragons. I am still reserved if Prince of the Apocalypse is any better. And having a decent set of adventures is the entry price for me to continue with 5E long term. The price of the APs are prohibitive as well. I would prefer a series of adventure modules via old school, so if the first couple don't pan out, then I have not wasted my investment on a 300 page book.
