D&D 5E When do you think they will announce the next book?

Whoa there with the loaded words, cowboy. It is almost as if you are calling me a liar or do not know what mis-quoting means. The word you are looking for is paraphrase.

I am calling you mistaken. And now I am calling you smug, for claiming I don't know what mis-quoting means or that I didn't know how to find the word paraphrase. I said what I meant goldomark. You mis-quoted him. You quoted him incorrectly. That does not imply intent on your part.

Here is what you mistakenly claimed he said, "If only one AP is released this year and I ask Mearls what happened cause he said two APs a year were supposed to be released, am I oppressing Mearls?"

Here is what he actually said, "We're looking at two storylines a year."

When someone says they are "looking at" something that covers years of a time span, that means that's their initial tentative plans - not a commitment. It does not mean if they don't go ahead with what they're looking at, that something was not done that was "supposed to" happen. That's you changing the tone of his sentence. I assume you did it by mistake, but you changed the tone to imply a firmer commitment than what was given.

If you disagree, use it in an everyday sentence. If you ask me when I am planning to get to a party in a few weeks time, and I say, "right now I am looking at 8", that doesn't mean my failure to arrive by 8, I have failed to do something I was "supposed" to do. It means my initial plan that I was looking at changed at some point. It doesn't mean you can't ask me why my initial plan changed (though even asking might get a raised eyebrow), but to change the tone to be I was "supposed" to be there at 8 is an unwarranted presumption on your part. Nobody gave you any kind of firm commitment about the time I would arrive.

This thing about taking vague hopes and tentative thoughts and plans from game designers and turning them into promises and commitment and rock solid pledges, it's BS. Doing that to designers is what causes them to say less - because they can never say anything without it being taken out of context, changed, and spun by people into different meanings. Intentional or not, I wish it would stop. If there are two ways or more to read a statement from a game designer concerning their future intentions for the game, just quote them directly instead of deciding on what you assume they mean and then re-stating it as if you know for sure that's what they mean. It seems to rarely turn out well when people paraphrase a game designer's statements concerning future plans for the game, because quote often people add their own spin and biases to the paraphrasing.

I have converted many monsters, classes, races, and some spells, so far, that is one of the big sellers of 5th ed for me: ease of conversion.
Very true. I find converting any edition D&D to 5E D&D to be a very simple process. It is almost as easy as converting to Castles & Crusades, almost. :)

I want to see more adventures/adventure paths released for sure but I really, really terribly badly want to see SETTINGS! There were some hints dropped months back by Chris Perkins that Ravenloft and Greyhawk might see new releases in 5e. PLEASE make it so! I MISS Ravenloft horribly and would love to see a 5e setting book for BOTH these classic settings. I am currently playing in the Forgotten Realms and would like a 5e setting book for it as well. However, I get very upset at WotC's complete ignoring of other classic settings, only focusing on the Realms. It pisses me off.

How about Dark Sun, Eberron, Birthright, Al-Qadim, Spelljammer, Planescape, etc? PLEASE GIVE ME SETTINGS!!!!

Thus why I used the word "supposed" and not the word promised or garanteed. They have plans for APs until 2018. That maybe change, but two APs a years is their expected plan as far as we know (since Mearls himself said it).
We're looking at two storylines a year. Right now, we have plans laid down for stories up through 2018.
It is fair to assume that it is their plan until a new one is mentioned. If Mearls wants us to have zero expectations, he should make zero comments.

That being said, having expectations and being disappointed is not dramatic. People are very understanding when we're frank with them. There would be problems only if Mearls said something like "I never mentioned to storylines a year anywhere" or "I never officially annouced two APs a years". The first one is a lie, the other is being pedantic. Both are terrible public relations. Notice I'm not saying people are entitled to two APs a year or that they are entitled to explainations as why they aren't getting two APs a year. All I'm saying is that they should be respected and a lie or being pedantic is not being respectful.

People aren't stupid, they know when someone is not communicating fairly with them. Again, notice I'm not saying we are entitled to fair communications. But when bad communications are made, people are entitled to be disatisfied with those communications. Disatisfied customers and fans is bad for business. Those are the main points. People can be disatisfied with bad communications and disatisfied customers and fans is bad for WotC.

Now, notice that I'm not saying Mearls is being unrespectful when he is saying they want to do two APs are year. That is just silly.

I love all of those settings, but thinking about it, the material already out there is eminently useable with 5th Ed, no real need for yet another FR campaign setting book/boxed set, we have 4 now.

As long as you don't imply Mearls promised or committed to two APs a year, I am good. I am not sure why you keep saying "People" when you mean "I", but whatever.
