D&D 5E When do you think they will announce the next book?

(I actually find quite a few similarities between the first section of Hoard of the Dragon Queen an the first section of the Giantslayer AP - both have a town being attacked.)

I was actually struck more by the synopsis of the last adventure in that Path, which features an infiltration of a flying castle. :)

There's probably some very clever reason for that - possibly to do with the schools all going back in September or something.

Edit: Or it's GenCon, as MerricB says. :)

Trying to get in between the end/beginning of an AP's subcription probably played a roll too.

As much as people from Paizo and WotC said that they do not want conflict, D&D has to get some market shares from Paizo. Edition war is bad for the RPG business, but getting market shares from a rival compagny is good for Paizo and D&D. A contradition, but reality none the less. A neoliberal economy dictates competition is inevitable.

*I actually think the Rock of Bral is an interesting setting for an AP set in the Realms even if it is not original anymore and part of the Realms. The setting just needs to be revived and refreshed. The FR are a natural place for Bral, more than a few people set it in Selune's Tears, the asteroids that orbit Toril's moon. Having a spelljammer-like AP where some planets are visited would be fun and a change from "some cultists are summoning there god" AP. Bral is a rich place full of intrigue and colorful NPCs.

IMO, Spelljammer is cool and awesome, but best kept away from established settings. Just like a ship-based campaign works best when there are lots of islands and few major land masses, Spelljammer works best with lots of asteroids and few big planets. Also, while Spelljammer can certainly make use of cool stuff from the Realms, Greyhawk, and Dragonlance, it can be fairly disruptive to the integrity of those settings. If you have flying ships that can encircle the globe in a matter of days or hours, distances are nullified and many exploration aspects of the setting become rather pointless.

I've been wondering about when the next book will be released as well and even considered starting a thread about it... but now I don't have to thanks to the OP :)

Anyway, I think it would be really funny if WotC revealed their full release schedule tomorrow on April Fool's Day. No one would be expecting it and everyone would think it was a joke but it wouldn't be... just my weird sense of humor at work.

For the next book, I'd have to say that it will probably be announced at Gen Con this summer and then be released in September or October this year. I'm hoping that they also announce a setting book at Gen Con as well... in fact, if they don't announce a setting book at the convention then I will take that to mean that they really have no intention of ever publishing settings again (just my gut feeling on it).

Also want to add that now that PotA is out (in limited stores, I know), this is the first time I can remember that we have no idea what book or adventure WotC is working on next, just some vague idea about when the next AP might come out and us guessing about what sort of an adventure it might be. Strange times...

I don't think that matters all that much. Due to the major difference in the game systems, only the most dedicated of DMs will be converting a Pathfinder adventure to 5E, or vice versa.

I don't find them that different, and I find converting 3rd Ed/PF material to 5th Ed to be quite easy. I have converted many monsters, classes, races, and some spells, so far, that is one of the big sellers of 5th ed for me: ease of conversion.

Depends how you approach it, like, GH, FR, DL, etc, exist in all Spelljammer campaigns, but Spelljammer does not exist in all GH, FR, DL, etc, campaigns.
