Level Up (A5E) Where am I during mounted combat?

For several reasons I prefer hex maps over square grids. I am going to make some assumptions, but that is what is required in miniature combat. The horse is Large, therefore it “can” occupy a 2x2 grid. It does not actually take up that space, but has the potential to be somewhere in that box. In reality it depends on the age and breed, but let’s assume the horse is a massive warhorse 6 feet long x 2.5 feet wide. It could be anywhere within that 4 square grid, but we should assume it is in the centre, that is facing a direction (either N/S or E/W) it is on the centreline and can kick forward or backward to the remaining 2 feet. It can extend the full length left or right by turning 90 degrees.

So where is the rider? As someone above said in the saddle. The saddle is roughly in the middle of the horse. Therefore you are centred at the point between all four squares. This assumes a standard riding position and not doing some riding trick. If I go digging in my older edition books, I am sure there are rules for this. I believe there was a guide for large scale combat in both 2E and 3E.
