I prefer tabletop for rollplaying and PbPs for roleplaying (not that there's not a lot of overlap there, but each medium has it's benefits and drawbacks).

Tabletop for me. A large part of my fun comes from hanging out with people, eating munchies, the rattle of the dice, and poorly drawn maps under a scattering of minis and random bit tokens on the battlemat. I'd play online if I could find a game that looked good because, as others have said, when you can't get enough to fill the craving you'll take anything you can get, but I vastly prefer in-person.

Tabletop only, though my current group has an online component for character interaction online during breaks from game. It's mainly used to develop character relationships and backgrounds.

While all my gaming is now online through chat, that is due to geography, not desire. However, I have discovered that online gaming has it's good parts as well, so, I put myself in the middle as having no strong preference.

I voted "strongly prefer tabletop". I've played some online (IRC) but that was some years ago now and... well, I won't say I'll never do it again but the odds are very low. I like using my voice and body language when I play/GM and that naturally places me at the table (or in the forest with the other nutty LARPers).

I think it'll always be tabletop, but I'm going to start what is expected to be a *long* Call of Cthulhu pbp here this month, which'll be my first foray into pbp. We'll see how it goes. I think there are potential strengths in character development there, and it might work better for a game like CoC with comparatively little combat (and quicker and more abstract combat at that) than it would for, say, D&D 3.5.

I guess it's wrong in a way for me to vote, since I've never actually played online, but I think I would prefer tabletop because I like to play with people I can trust. Unless I only played online with people I already knew I wouldn't feel I could trust them. But I might be willing to play online if one of my friends moved away and that was the only way I could roleplay with that person. So I voted for "strongly prefer tabletop".
