Where you live: Gamer Paradise or Gamer Wasteland?

First Post
Gamer Paradise - Your area is relatively a good place for gamers to live. There are a multitude of fellow gamers to choose from, gaming events to attend, and stores which service the gaming community. Some of the populace even have an idea of what an RPG is and have even dabbled in it now and then.

Gamer Wasteland - Your area is relatively a poor place for gamers to live. The selection of gamers to game with is either very small or very poor or both. The occurance of gaming events is either very rare or non-existant. There are very few stores to purchase gaming supplies at, limited to the larger bookstore chains or the Internet. Very few of the people who live here have heard of an RPG and have a hard time understanding the concept.

Or is it a little bit of both?

Where do you live? Why do you think your area is a Gamer Paradise/Gamer Wasteland/or a little bit of both?

Gamer Wasteland - Selection of eligable gamers is small , The last hobby shop with a game club and selection closed about 6 or 8 years ago, only two comic stores, one has a rotten game selection and the other has rotten service. :(

There hasn't been a gaming convention in-town for ~20 years.

My area has an ample number of stores to buy gaming gear from. Most within a few miles of my. And I have a few friends with in walking distance of my house who I game with. However it's not exactly paradise, I'm the only who DMs reguarly :( (though one of the other guys runs Shadowrun reguarly so it's alright :) ).

Boston is a Gamer Paradise. Lots of gamers around here, including plenty of cool EN Worlders, and at least 4 good game stores within easy biking distance.

Paradise. We have 5 gaming stores, plenty of gamers and potential gamers, and 3 conventions 2 of them that are pretty darn big.

Yup

You beat me to it. Boston's great.

4 stores? Pandemonium, Your Move Games, Compleat Strategist....what am I missing?!?!

Sort of a wasteland. There are quite a few gamers around here, as I've found out, but VERY little networking, and NO game stores. If you want anything within a month of its release, you have to travel out of town to get it.

Danger Planet in Waltham (off Moody St) is the fourth that I was thinking of (I live in Brighton...at least for another month or so).

Also, the Hobby Bunker in Malden is pretty good if you live up that way, but it's not within my everyday biking range. There's also a store in Norwood, but it it didn't wow me when I was there.
