Which 3.5 changes are you NOT using?

I haven't made my way through the new books in their entirety, but at present I'm planning on trying them out pretty much as is. Overall, I like the changes I've seen thus far.

The only thing that I know I'll be fiddling with right off the bat is the sorcerer -- I think Monte's BoEMII sorcerer was much better than the original, and the 3.5 sorcerer really hasn't changed all that much.

If things that changed crop up and the whole group (or the majority of the group) doesn't like them, I'll definitely consider switching back to the "old way."

Im with Hellhound on this one, Im going to at least try the rules in their entirety for a while, and see none that blatantly rip my eyeballs from their dripping sockets.

1. Pokemounts. Without a doubt the dumbest single aspect of the entire revision.

I wound up liking this one as soon as I heard it; for me, it means paladin mounts will actually see use in the game, as will mounted combat feats.

So far, I haven't found any changes I absolutely hate, though some I am neutral toward (Craft-Alchemy being one, and Weapon Familiarity and the extra Dwarven bonuses being two others), but overall, I like them a lot.

Weapon sizing. BLECCH.
I'm using weapon sizing but also the variant rule in the DMG. Thus, I'm not really using weapon sizing, for the most part. :p

Is either of them playing a teleportation-obsessed Transmuter with lots of Spell Focus/Greater Spell Focus feats and a toad familiar? ;)
If so, you'll probably need to give him some incentive to change to 3.5. :p

... Weapon Finesse should not have the BAB +1 requirement, so that the "finesse fighters", the rogue and bard, could pick it up at first level.
I thought about doing that, too...

Inproved Critical not stacking with Keen weapons. That's just dumb, and hampers some types of character concepts severely, reducing all fighters to greatsword wielders in order to be effective.
Agreed; I don't like that, either.
Also, Heal is staying the same. We have an epic game we play sometimes, and with the amount of damage that gets put out at the level, you NEED a complete healing spell or you're dead. 250 points for a mass heal can be insignifigant when the damage done per round is in the hundreds.
Yeah... Using epic spells for that purpose, instead of not putting a cap on heal, would be too much of a hassle, right?

I am using the rules as-is to see how it all works together.

I think it is easy to look at a particular rule/change and say it is total junk and will never work but until you use all the rules together you will never truly know if it is good or bad.

amen to that.

In my current game that I DM, I am not migrating to 3.0 - essentially with the PC's being well into the game (9th level) the only way to get them integrated was with a lot of grandfathering. So as a group, we elected not to change that campaign.

That said, that means we're not going to implement stuff piecemeal - based on the premise that 3.5 is internally balanced, but not necessarily perfectly balanced with 3.0.

We've already had a few of those conversations already -"we'd like to use the 3.5 identify spell", they say. "Sure", I say "I'd like to use the 3.5 stat boost and shield spells". "Yech" the pc's say....

On the other hand, the new BR game we are starting is pure 3.5 baby. not looking back. Really so far have no probs with 3.5. Any problems I do have, date from 3.0 - such as the fighter Profession thang.

Lastly - the pokemount. I'ts been said before, but anything which allows a player to use one of his main class benefits more often can only be a good thing.

Really, if the DM doesnt have enough imagination to adapt the new power to his game world, well....

Weapon sizing. The rule doesn't even have the potential to add anything to my game.

Improved Precise Shot. Pet peeve: Dropping prone would give a target +4 AC (effectively), while standing behind an arrow slit doesn't? Riiiiight. Changed to never hit allies in combat.

Still using chance to hit cover.
