Well, now that bring up a strange question...

Mount creates a horse. If the horse lasts 8 hours, and you ate it hour 1, do the effects disappear in 7 hours? How does already-digested meat disappear.

And if it does, it gives the idea of Chinese food a whole new dimenion.... "How can I be hungry an hour later?"

This is interesting! Usualy it's things eating me!

The boar is a good choice as well as the Dire Infernal Dodo .
Big drumsticks and a real kick of hotness. and you can use the beak to shovel a pit for afterward.

Rangers, especially the elf or half elf ones are quite good eating and you dont have to feel bad about making the innocent little critter have to give up their life. Invariably, you'll stumble into another party member later on thats either-
An elf
A Ranger
A Half-elf
A Half-elf or Elf Ranger

After all, good PC's will lay down their life and limb for their comrades in battle, or maybe just a limb and promise you'll grow it back later...

But don't eat the Samuri -- you'll just be hungry again in about an hour.

i hope i don't offend any posters with this, but:

bear steaks are actually pretty tasty in RL. i'd imagine they taste the same in fantasy worlds too.

and of course it all depends on diet.

bear steaks taken from a bear in the spring or just out of hibernation are leaner.

those taken from a bear in late fall or early in hibernation are very fatty.

No, no, what you want is two bunny companions. By the time you're starving, you have ten bunny companions (and so do all the bunnies ). Eat one, save one for later. Later, you have 20 bunny companions. Reapeat ad infinitum. (Am I using that right?)
