Which Classes Need Quick Fixes, And What Do You Recommend?

Warmage: Good grief, what a mess.
Quick Fix: use the variant sorcerer in UA, with higher hit dice and BAT and fewer spells per day. Allow them to cast spells in light armor without risk of ASF (as a bard). Call it a "warmage."

I'm curious to know what you don't like about the warmage. I really like how it's designed (you know THESE spells, just pick X per level per day as you see fit) to be light on the bookeeping. It and classes like it are really great for introducing people to playing a caster for the first time without overwhelming them in options.

That is the problem, as I see it. The class is great to introduce someone to the game, but lacking in depth after they know how spells work. A new player may like the class, but many I have seen tire of it after they learn the rules of the game because the character is a one-trick pony. I see the same thing with first-timers who try a fighter or barbarian. Many times they advance to the more satisfying fare and challenge of playing a spellcaster like a wizard or cleric. Woe to the party who choose the warmage over the wizard when it comes time to identify magical items, fly, and teleport. When you are playing with an experienced group of players who know the rules of the game, the warmage has no place. It belongs in the D&D Basic set, not D&D.
