Legend
d4 is the most useless, but the most deadly.
d6 is the most useful, but the most boring.
d8 is just there, coz Plato.
d10 is just there, because there was once a thing called exceptional Strength.
d12 is supreme, but why?
d20 is the One Die to Rule Them All.
d30 is what happens when A) Greek geometers go out drinking, and/or B) dice have extra chromosomes.

I voted for the d8 because it's elegant but still not a "standard" old boring d6.

Honorary mention goes to the caltrop ... umm ... d4. Especially this one.

The d12 is definitely the most under used. And certainly the best overall.

A platonic solid--unlike that possuer the d10--it has enough sides to feel comfortable and roll well, but is easier to read then the overdone d20.
It breaks the mundane pattern of the other platonic solids, each of which corresponds to one of the four base element. Its element is quintessence--spirit, magic, the essence of the heavens. Pythagoras had a thing for it.

It has also been estimated to be the shape of the universe.

The one that rolls max damage on a crit against the enemy when I am down to one hit point. That die shall be revered like unto a great spirit, and its story sung for generations!
