Which is the "Best" Ninja?

As far as I know there are currently 3 ninjas out. One in OA, which is a prestige class, one in Complete Adveturer and one in Rokugan. These three feature the name "ninja" that's why I've chosen them. I'm sure that there are other classes that could/do fill the "ninja" void and would like to here what your using to fill this roll, but which "ninja" is the most "ninja" like. The Iconic Ninja if you will.

Like many iconic characters there are a multitude of different D&D options that might fill it (as well as the usual mixture of fact and fantasy).

Ultimately it depends on your personal preferences and style of play which is why for me the Rokugan is the best as I dislike "ki-powers" of any description . . .

I'm sorry, but I only know the Complete Adventurer Ninja.
The one in OA I can't remember, but I have the book.
I think the Ninja class in Complete Adventurer is a good one, I'm not saying it's the best, but it will do.

The rokugani ninja can be found here, as one of the excerpts to the Rokugan d20 book.

I might add that they have quite a bit of info about ninja in their books, including a whole book dedicated to them (Way of the Ninja), which tells you more of the history and the purposes of a ninja in the Empire of Rokugan, as well as the major ninja "oranizations" in the empire. In Rokugan, they're not always assassins, but can be saboteurs, spies, even bodyguards and fill other roles as well.

Hmm. Maybe so in the USA. But typical Japanese Comic (or TV show) Ninja wears chain shirt under his/her black suit or other costume.

Also done in history. Meusems have blackened chain shirts and 'masks' used by ninjas (I forget the time period). There are replicas sold on line somewhere...

I know that "Ninjas" can be of any class and historically they did certain things that have been distorted to what we now belive them to have been able to do. Just as a Samurai is a social class "ninja" is a term that defines a role. I'm looking at it from a fantasy game perspective and really in the context of OA and Rokugan (since Rokugan is the default world of OA). I'm personally not sure which way I want to go, 20 lvl class or prestige class, and wanted to know what people are using in their campaign worlds. I think with Rokugan you have the oppurtunity to use them all since each clan would train their ninja differently (I also like the Ghost Faced Killer PrC from CA. I think that would probebly be a Scorpion Prc). I also think that a straight ninja class with a few ninja presitige classes like the Ikoma Spymasters may be a better way to go. With a land like Rokugan a lot of the debate about using base classes from the PHB to simulate what history tells us doesn't really work. There are no Wizards or Clerics there. They have Shugenja that fill both roles so you can't say that a cleric 4/wizard 2/ divine exorsist x best fits what history says about the Shugenja.
I'm not trying to be rude, Ninja is one of those words that make people crazy. I've posted the same thread on the wizards board and have lots of I use "My own ninja" and I've read too many "in character" replies about how ninja don't exist or "my clan smashes you" in regards to ninja.

Real Ultimate Power is hysterical. I first found it when I was researching Ninjas for my 1948: Ninja, which is a d20 Modern version of the but-kicking dudes (and gals) who always flip-out and kill people!
