Frankly, I dont see how all these monster compendiums continue to sell...I had more than enough monsters long ago.

Now a book of Epic Monsters might be interesting though.

I think MM2 would have more of those. I ddin't bother including MM2 because I think pretty much everyone will get it.

I continue to buy them for the same reason I continue to buy adventures, spell books, class books, race books, and the rest - because they might have a few clever ideas that will help me dm.

Is that why you also didn't include Tome of Horrors from Necromancer Games?

I'm mostly set for monster books, but I'm getting the Monsternomicon to pillage for my Oz campaign. ("Skorne." It just sounds right.) And of course I'm getting Eden's Liber, since I've got a writing credit. :)

I don't have any of those. Hmm, I actually have more 2e monster books than 3e, and I was more willing to consider buying monstrous compendiums and such.

Now, with the greater possibilities of classes and such, I guess I need fewer books of monsters. Rather than find an even bigger giant to deal with powerful characters, I can just slap some Barbarian levels on one.

i'm of the same mind. the only monster books i own (and probably ever will) are the original MM and Monsters of Faerun (which i've never even used).

i like using a "limited palette" when it comes to monsters, rather than having a "monster-of-the-week" campaign.

there have been very few monsters i've wanted to use that weren't in the MM or buildable myself. between that "How To Build a Monster" article in Dragon, templates, class levels, and advancement schemes, i've got everything i need.

actually, i think i'd get more use out of a book of templates than out of a book of new monsters.
