I'd be a bit more specific: every class should use the same number of stats, and every character should be able to have a "good" number in one stat beyond those.Classes that only use one main stat. Every class should have abilities based off multiple stats.
It's not that simple as 1:1 because not all stats are made equal. Int used to give extra skill points & languages because knowledge skills for example are something that there is rarely any personal benefit beyond being the one the GN credits for telling the group some bit of knowledge he no longer needs to use an NPC to convey to the group while every non-int based class loses nothing for dumping int. An intelligence based caster will acutely feel dumping wisdom con dex & probably strength to some degree. Dex being more valuable than strength in almost every way while still being pretty much the same AC is another that allows the dex based character to have good dex saves & dump strength without cost in favor of gaining freedom to pump some combo or split of the same con/wis/cha the strength based character also needs on top of dex or bad dex saves. The dex chaacter used to have reduced damage or need to burn a feat for weapon finesse but that's not really the case anymoreI'd be a bit more specific: every class should use the same number of stats, and every character should be able to have a "good" number in one stat beyond those.
So if every class is three -ability-dependent, (constitution, class and subclass adds one?) everyone should have four good ability scores.
Not just that, its also a way for people to skirt any rules about insulting others preferences. Fun being had all around. This thread, for example, is a great big pile-on of how unimaginative and cliche-ridden “other”people are, whether it’s players or DMs or authors. But not us, no. We are original and creative and elite.

Just wrote a 1980s themed kids-become-their-PCs adventure. They have to kills rats in their comic shop."Go kill rats in the basement!"
This trope is soooooo tired!
Seriously, are there no quest-givers with rats in their attic??

Always fun when you get to do this stuff as parody.
Make it their attic and you could have the marauders still thinking that they're the ones with rats down below! My next campaign might start with a pack of wererats hiring the PCs to get marauders out of their basement, who turn out to be a bunch of drunks who think they are in a tavern.
