Which system for a Star Wars game?

I have to put in a vote for Star Wars using an adapted Parker Brothers Monopoly system ...

Joking aside, the D6 system was clunky and the character effectiveness seemed to jump around (your stats improved xd6, xd6+1, xd6+2, x+1d6).

d20 star wars has the odd levels thing but once you improve, it's an actual improvement, not a "statisticly speaking, the average roll is higher, even if the minimum is lower" improvement.

Of the two, I'd reccomend d20 Star Wars. (I've only got Old Core Rules, so I can't speak for Revised) As a plus, material for it should be easier to find. :)

I've never seen True20 Star Wars so I can't speak for it either, but I'd love to see a d20 Monder take on it.

If I was to run something myself today, I'd use True20 for star wars without hesitation though.

Amen. Both of the conversions can be found in the true20 boards:

Ether's TrueForce

and

ValhallaGH's TrueStarWars

Many of their approaches are similar, with the differences mostly lying in how to handle the Drak Side, and the mastery feats.

Valhalla's has an awesome conversion of the Hot Pursuit rules for chases to handle starship combat.

I've played and run d20 Star Wars in both Original and Revised rules for long campaigns.

I've run a multi-year long campaign of d6 Star Wars and played in a large number of games of it.

I've played in a few one-shots of Star Wars using other systems (BESM, GURPS, Alternity).

I'd go with d20 Revised Core Rules.

Don't want an all-Jedi Party? Just don't allow it. Just like if you wouldn't want an all-Jedi party in any other system, don't allow PC's to indiscriminately take Force feats/classes just like you wouldn't indiscriminately allow them to buy/choose those powers in any other system.

As for Jedi being balanced against other classes, they do get advantages nobody else can get (but that will happen in any Star Wars RPG, force powers are quite useful), but the d20 version at least makes some disadvantage to constant Force use (especially at low levels) with the Vitality point cost. In d6, you can throw Force powers all day without tiring.

Also, like in D&D there are certain niches that a well rounded adventuring group needs in Star Wars, and since a Jedi or other Force User needs to be spending their skill points on Force powers, they are less likely to have a lot of useful skills.

In the movies, we see Jedi able to do everything themselves often and while things like that are theoretically possible in the RCR, it's not that likely.

In my experience d6 PC's are actually more powerful than d20 ones, because of the way skills are handled and untrained skills are treated.

I've been running a game with Ether's True Force homebrew, and it works pretty well. True20 is well suited for Star Wars. That being said, go with what you're most comfortable with ;) .

I played in a d6 Star Wars game years ago...don't remember much about it so I can't comment. Apperently WotC is re-releasing am updated Star Wars game, I've heard god things about it.

All of the above systems should work well,

I might chime in that there is a Star Wars mod for spycraft 2.0 floating around out there.

However you would need the SC 2 book and the like. But I highly recommend SC 2 for any modern style gaming

I agree with using Savage Worlds. This has become my go-to system lately.

I've played both d6 and d20 versions. I thought d20 Star Wars was clunky compared to d6. I had a lot more fun running the WEG d6 version. It's Star Wars! You shouldn't have to spend time calculating bonuses and such! Just blow stuff up!

But Savage Worlds just seems made for it. The fact that you can have combats with large numbers of NPC mooks that don't take that long to run sets up the PCs vs stormtroopers feel.

Stall a few months, then get Star Wars d20 Saga Edition.

Thats what I was going to say. From what I have read from one of the writers it really sounds like it might adress some of the issues people have with the Force and Jedi.

EDIT: Having said that, my 2nd choice would be True 20.
