Which version of "The Prisoner" DVD Megaset should I get?

I'm strongly considering buying The Prisoner DVD Megaset, which includes all 17 episodes of the landmark 1967 series along with other related goodies.

However, the two online sites I found that sells the Megaset seem to sell nearly identical versions to each other except that the A&E Store version apparently shows the episodes in their original order ("Digitally re-mastered and presented in its original order...") while the Amazon.com version apparently shows the episodes in a "fan-preferred" order ("Patrick McGoohan's complete classic 17-episode TV series is presented in the fan-preferred viewing order...").

Are those two versions really different from each other as described? If so, which version would you recommend I get and why?

Thanks. :)

Good question. Up until now I was not aware there was such a thing as a 'preferred viewing order' that was different from the original order but a quick perusal of Prisoner sites shows that not only is there one, everyone has a different idea on what that should be. Very fitting, considering the show :) I'd say just get the A&E one since there is no evidence like, say, Firefly or Crusade, that the episodes were aired out of intended order.

I have the A&E collection and prefer to have the episodes in chronological order. A movie version of "The Prisoner" was supposedly in the works, years ago.

It's cheaper at Buy.com for 127.35 + free shipping and even cheaper at DeepdiscountDVD.com for the low price of 99.40 + free shipping (I did a search for prisoner and it was on page 3). Just thought I mention it. Great series IMO.

Thanks for your help, everyone!

I'll most likely get the "presented in its original order" version, and now I know where to save money getting it. :)

I finally found the time to visit the local store and buy the Megaset.

The only version the store had in stock was the "fan-preferred viewing order" one. Though I have yet to view the DVD's (I'll try to rectify that at the end of this week), the "Episode Order Debate:" explanations on the back of each DVD case makes me feel better about getting this version of the Megaset, as some of the episodes were indeed originally broadcast out of order and such. :)

Be seeing you!

I'd have to say that the order of the shows really doesn't matter that much. Aside from the first one and ther last one, the others are a bit interchangeible.
