From mythology, I'd have to say Ereshkigal or Nergal.

From D&D, I'd go with Orcus and Wee Jas. Orcus is "only" a demon prince, but he's still worshipped by a lot of cults as a god, perhaps mroeso than all the other demon lords combined. Wee Jas I like because she's dispassionate and stern, alot like the gods of death in mythology. It's worth noting that she was originally the Suel goddess of magic. She became linked with death after the Suel began praying to her to guard the dead in the afterlife. I've often drawn imagery from the cult of Hecate to describe Wee Jas' temples.

I knew this Goth/Art chick girl in college who named her daughtyer Ereshkigal. Poor kid.

Hmm. I wonder if there was anyone named Nergal around that time... It would turly be a match made in ... somewhere...

I think real-world religions should be left out of this discussion.

Wee Jas is awesome. The Blood of Vol and the Undying court are pretty kickass too.

As for real-world mythology, My vote is for Odin, Freya, and Persephone. But that's because I mostly just know greek and norse mythology.
