D&D General Who was your first character, and do you still play them?

My first TTRPG character, which was for 3e D&D, was also my first and last barbarian that I ever played. It used a pretty ridiculous ice-themed homebrew prestige class that the GM - a fellow high school student - had created for his setting. No, I don't still play that character.

B/X. I was probably 6 and my brother made me roll up two character. One was a thief called Gojack ( after Kojack) and the other was a magic user called Wandalf ( after Gandalf) My brother played two NPC fighter and was the DM for the Caves of Chaos.

We survived and my brother added a lot of extra levels after we explored the Caves. I was hooked.

In retrospect I am sure my brother was fudging the rolls for his two fighters, but at the time it was amazing.

In 1978 or 1979 (I am unsure) I played Bintler the halfling thief, with some inspiration from Bilbo Baggins with some minor alterations (such as he loved spicy foods, not tobacco). I do still revive Bintler every once in a while. I currently play Henry the Halfling Rogue. Henry has some similarities to Bintler, but not the same character and not played with the same personality.

My first D&D character was a halfling in Mentzer's Red Box Basic. The adventure was B2 Keep on the Borderland, and I absolutely don't remember his name, but likely it was something ripped off from Tolkien. He survived a couple of sessions, but met his demise when I skipped a session. My first AD&D character (about a year later) was a human ranger with great stats (but no recollection of his name either) and he was disintegrated by a cleaning golem in C3 The Lost Island of Castanamir. Back then life was brutal and often short...

Quasar an elf I rolled up using B/X rules in 1983, only to arrive at the table on actual game day to learn there was this thing called AD&D and "elf" was not a class and they didn't allow multiclassing. So I played Quasar as a fighter for one session.

I don't think I played another PC (only running games) until I played a Kensai around 1987.

It was four decades ago, and all I remember was casting Burning Hands at a monster for 1 point of damage and then dying.

Cleric in B/X, played Palace of the Silver Princess. Don't even think I had a name. Defeated a skeleton with 1 hp remaining. My brother the DM asked which direction I wanted to go (the map was on the ground between us). I said "left". Well, his left was the wall, not the door that was my left.

"you run into a wall and take 1 hp of damage." Dead.

So no, I didn't keep playing him...

BECMI as well, 1985, in the Castle Mistamere sample dungeon run by my dad.

I made an Elf called Raven who wore chainmail and had a crossbow.

He died to a poison needle trap on a box, as I recall. One session lifespan, never to be seen again. :)
