Who's the big cahuna of undead in FR?

Yeah, Velsharoon was a rival to Szass Tam. But it was Talos who got him his membership to the diety club. See Talos was looking to exspand his portfolio, so he got in contact with Velsharoon. Well, Velsharoon not stupid (he's a lich, ok), anyways, he figures out Talos wants his control over undeath and necromancy. So Velsharoon decides to go to the real magic lady and hide under her dress. Mystra seeing Velsharoon as the lesser of two evils and accepts him. Creating some emity between Velsharoon and Talos.

In my opinion Velsharoon's ambition meter should be running off the scales now, as he needs as much power to stave off Talos, and separate himself from Mystra. I don't really know why WoTC ain't playin this up, but if I were runnin a FR campaign I definatly would, instead they introduce us to a drow queen of the undead, Kiaransalee, and have Orcus making rumbles. Eh, just my opinion.

I'm very sure the original post was correct.

Velsharoon and Szass Tam were rivals and I think this was detailed in the original Red Wizards of Thay accessory.

Savras and Azuth were rivals and this was detailed in 2E's Powers & Pantheons, Volo's Guide to All Things Magical and probably 3E's Faiths & Pantheons as well.

True dat, my bad. :(

Velsharoon is the canon deity most closely associated with undead. You can read about him for free in the FRCS Web Enhancement, available HERE . A more hook-loaded (IMHO, more interesting from an RP perspective) description is available in the 2e book Powers and Pantheons (which you can download for $5 from www.svgames.com or www.rpgnow.com ).

The bit about Vel and Szass being rivals comes from Halls of the High King, in the rumours section at the end.

Velsharoon is a loser deity. He's all like "I want to be evil and stuff, but Mystra won't let me."

And Orcus had died and come back more times than anyone can count. He should be the Demon Prince of unneeded ressurections.

I, personally say Cyric. Because he was the god of the dead when Myrkul died, and last offical undeath god before Kelemvor took over the death portfolio.

His clerics are real big into it anyway, in my game.

Okay, I give up. How is this a Scarred Lands reference? ;)

iirc, they statted out the big O first in SL and kept him with deity status.

in the first attempt by WotC... iirc he was only a demon and thus no deity powers.

but i could be wrong about the newer editions.

He only died once thanks. He came back as an undead version of himself, killed gods by the dozens, might have faded a little but he's still around and pretty much the bad ass he always was. Myrkul could only DREAM of being this bad ass. And Orcus been around much longer than Myrkul. :p

Dink,

It's not but I'm allowed to enjoy the coolest of all Demon Princes as a god. Hail orcus!

Dialgo,

No but Tome of Horrors and Necromancer Games have statted Orcus a couple of times. Therefore it's semi-SL related since Necromancer Games is under the S&SS umbrella.
