Why Bodybuilding is bad

Many professional bodybuilders are also plagued by hampered range of motion and general dexterity issues due to the large, bulky size of their muscles. I read once that many hard-core body sculptors are unable to comb their own hair because their arm muscles are so bulky they can't reach. This seems like it would be a major issue when dealing with dice or miniatures.

Actually, I would believe this from amateurs, not professionals that really know what they are doing. True bodybuilders go out of their way to maintain flexibility along with increased strength and definition. When I used to lift weights more I knew several people that were either amateur or even professional bodybuilders and they always maintained their flexibility. One of the "pros" had yoga 4 times a week to maintain flexibility and spent almost an hour a day doing nothing but stretching.

Now, the steriod freaks that go work out to get massive muscles, and I have witnessed several over the years, don't bother with proper stretching and don't do balanced workouts. Combine that with bizarre diets and drug regimens designed to build muscle bulk and some pretty serious problems develop. I have seen people that couldn't completely straighten their arms and legs, I think pictures of a few of those folks could go a long way toward cutting down steriod use in high schools.

I was thinking about that also, since in pro bodybuilding competitions they are judged by forms and not just solely by bulk, they would have to have some regimen of stretching.

I lost a lot of weight so far this year. The big things that helped me were portion control and never taking the elevator at school. Perhaps if we, as a hobby, could list some healthier snack alternatives we could all get a bit more healthy. Im not trying to make generalizations about the posting community, just thinking about the stereotype.

I like Peanut Butter and Honey on Crackers. Low Fat, High Protein, and Mighty Tasty!
To drink, Cranberry Juice...its delish.

Naw,man! Junk food's part of the fun of gaming!

My gaming group used to all go for yoga (two of us are instructors) before sessions. Great, GREAT way to start the day and get focused for some lazing around, drinking beer, and orchestrating Underdark expeditions and battles against primordial evil.

I thought this was a thread about problems with golems.

We should write and publish a weight-loss book for gamers, called "+5 Adamantine Workout Sword to battle the Lard Golem!" Chock-full of tips how to combine gaming and healthy exercise.

Since I know healthy exercise only from movies, I'll provide the D&D part ;)
