Why do d20 haters hang out here?

I actually took his statement to be fairly generic to people who hop on any "this is the greatest rpg ever!" bandwagon.
My point exactly.

Rambling on about how much you hate everything in teh system and how it kicked your dog for 500 words without a suggestion to "do it better" (besides "Play x!", i mean) isn't particularly constructive.

1) There are a lot of good ideas here regardless of what you play.

2) Some people's dislike of d20 developed over time, so maybe those first 1000 posts were during the "honeymoon" phase.
...

Those two points reflect my own position reasonably well (though in my case the honeymoon phase ended around post 498).

More precisely, after running two 3e campaigns, I found the game to require way too much prep time (and to run too slowly in practice) to use that system when GM'ing. However, I have no problem being a player in a good 3e campaign with a quality DM (and look forward to playing in such a campaign in the new year).

Also, many of the discussions concerning fantasy settings and adventures transcend game systems.

And ...

Let's be clear on something: Disliking 3e Dungeons and Dragons and disliking d20 system games is not the same thing. ...

Exactly. :)

I like aspects of the d20 system, particularly as seen in True20, d20 Modern and Spycraft 2.0. When those parts of the system come up, I'm very happy to see what others think of/are doing with the game.

I've never much liked playing (or running) D&D, and while I think 3.5 is the best version thereof, it retains a lot of the elements I didn't like in the first place. All the same, I do sometimes run it, and ENWorld provides lots of valuable advice for it. My D&D campaigns have been better for the experience.

One reason I participate on ENWorld on a regular basis is because it's helped me to identify what I don't like about D&D, as opposed to other d20 or non-d20 games. In some cases, I've even been able to find solutions as a result.

3.nE D&D / D20 has great mechanics, but not everyone agrees with Wotc's favoring simplicity & play assumptions, both real and imagined.

To the OP - you might be surprised by the number of high post count people on here who either don't play at all, or who play something other than d20.

You can't trust those high post count people......

So, who are this high post count people that don't play anyway??

Three reasons:

1) There are a lot of good ideas here regardless of what you play.

2) Some people's dislike of d20 developed over time, so maybe those first 1000 posts were during the "honeymoon" phase.

3) Some people find no greater pleasure than talking snap and being negative all the time. ;)
I fall into categories 1 and 2, in that order.

I don't hate d20, metter of fact, I like some of the OGL games quite a bit. I am very "bleh" about D&D 3.X, however.

Now, some of the fanboys who come across as "d20 is 733t, all else is teh suxx0rz", yeah, there is some malice there. Those guys need to realize this has become much more of a general board over the last 2 years, and other people do in fact play other systems and enjoy them.
