Why do d20 haters hang out here?

I'm still trying to "fix" d20 D&D because I do really still like it so much. So far, Omega World and Judge Dredd are the best I've done toward that end. But, Savage Worlds has my attention now, which is unlikely to change anytime soon. So, it may eventually do to d20 for me what d20 did to 2e--I purged it all early this year. I have gotten some great ideas from this board that I have used towards my "fix", but it may not be enough. I think D&D is now a magical arms race in the mechanical war of hit point attrition. But, it was sure fun for while.

That's the great thing about books. Once they're printed, they're good for years. If you don't like what's done with 3E you could always play an older edition or some hodge-podge of whatever works for you. I'm a big 3E fan, but I still use my 2E historical reference sourcebooks and 2E Legends and Lore. In fact, for world-building I use them more than most of my 3E books.

I recently bought the D&D Rules Cyclopedia. It's in my stack of books to read. Maybe it will be inspirational.

Personally speaking, I was once a rabid detractor of D&D 3x. Hated it. Absolutely hated it. I came to realize that my hatred was unfounded, however - I didn't hate it because of anything that it did, but merely because it wasn't My Favorite Game (which, at the time, was AD&D 2e). I've since come to realize that this kind of hate is stupid.

While d20 and D&D 3x still aren't my favorite systems today, I don't discard them out of hand - in fact, I like to play in D&D 3x games (refuse to GM them, however) and designed a minimalist OGL rule set based on the core elements of d20. I post here largely because it's a friendly community and because lots of good ideas for many systems are discussed here.

Well, I don't really hate d20 but it is my opinion that there are a handfull of games that are better. I do play D&D, although not often as most here do. So I come here because a lot of people here have good RPing ideas and random discussion on RPG whether they be d20 or not. Since a lot of RPing insight and ideas work no matter what system you play, this site is very usefull and entertaining.

It's simple -- they want attention. It's kind of similar to walking into a biker bar and yelling 'Only [censored] ride Harley's!" it gets the locals riled up, and with so many people paying attention how can you not be *cool*?

Well, it isn't exactly like that. Walking into a biker bar required leaving the basement for a few hours, maybe even getting exposed to the giant nuclear fireball in the sky and having to interac with people with names that sound something like a person would say them.

Actually, I'm just joking. Maybe.

Nice jerky reply there since it seems obvious that you aren't joking.

Anyway,

I hang out here becuase I play an OGL game and there are good ideas tossed about this forum for gaming inspiration. But I don't know if I'm listed as a D20 hater.

Well, since a joke is often defined as a truth taken to ridiculous extremes, I would say I was joking.
