D&D General Why Do People Hate Gnomes?

They have been squeezed out over the editions. If spellcasting was taken away from halflings, dwarfs, and 1/2orcs- you would see gnomes be more popular.

honestly, they lack proper roots in most settings.
too much humour and lacking ways to play a serious character.
confusion on what their common traits are as well as a lack of darker traits for more practical evil gnomes.

I have debated sitting down and trying to hammer out a setting where gnomes might be interesting.

still better than halflings which should have stayed in Tolkien's world, I hate halflings in ways that are just beyond the ability to express in words.

If anyone here hasn't seen Upworld (Alternate title "A Gnome Named Gnorm" depending on release) I highly recommend it as a ridiculous film. The trailer doesn't do it justice.

Also I am now reminded of the fact that -this- is how I wanted to differentiate gnomes from halflings and other small races. Making them humanoid but clearly inhuman.
