Why doesn't Fantasy Flight Games get more Love

I understand and was by no means questioning the judging - especially since I do not know the rules :)

Oh, I know. This is just something I wanted to say. It bothers me when a company or product doesn't get the recognition it deserves due to a very competitive field of entries. I'd like everyone to win...but that'd detract from the value of the awards.

There are only three D&D/D20 companies I will buy a book from, sight unseen (including WotC):

1. Fantasy Flight Games
2. Green Ronin
3. Mystic Eye Games

The rest I want to at least peruse and get an idea what they are about. The golden three though- all I need is a blurb and I KNOW I will be buying the highest quality.

FFG gets plenty of love from my wallet. :D

Monster's Handbook is one of the best d20 books overall, IMO, and certainly one of my favorites. Citycraft is marvelous, and Twisted Lore, Spells & Spellcraft and Dungeoncraft are all right up there as well.

Green Ronin, Malhavoc and FFG are the three d20 companies whose books I've used and enjoyed the most consistently -- and I really like that FFG has covered some staple concepts well, like cities, dungeons and creative monsters.

I'd definitely agree with Green Ronin (Jade Dragons Hungry Ghosts, anyone?) and FFG for my top 3. Obviously, I think Midnight is the best thing since my first beer, but I've never, ever gone wrong with their stuff. Traps & Treachery? Unsurpassed in quality and usefulness. They just keep putting better and better stuffy out.

Oh, and Mongoose, but not for their class/race books. Armageddon roxxors, but I'm a B-Tech guy from back when it was battledroids :) Seas of Blood was cool.

Sigh. So much good stuff, too little time :(

EDIT: Clarity.

Citycraft and Sorcery & Steam were both on sale at GenCon. I picked up S&S, but confess I have not found the time to look through it yet. Was hoping Portals & Planes would be available as well, but no luck.

I have many FFG supplement books; for the most part, they're top-notch, content and art. My minor complaints about FFG books are the size of their typeface (too large, or maybe just too much padding around the text) and the paper they use for their books, which doesn't seem to bend and fold nearly as well as most other books. When you turn the pages through most FFG books, the paper seems stiff; it's a minor annoyance.

Overall, high marks from me as a d20 publisher.

As you can probably guess, this means that just because something didn't get nominated doesn't mean it sucks or is second tier. I can say with all truthfulness there really wasn't anything I would call crap entered in the ENnies this year. That's what made the selection process even harder than last year. Some products and companies, had they been entered another year against different competition, would have easily made the nominee lists. The competition was really tight.

Looking at the company I was keeping, I can most certainly say I'm VERY proud of my nomination, and I'm glad to hear you and others point out things like this. It was tough this year, no question, and I hope all nominees (myself included) push the bar that much higher next year!

I must admit, I've only become a fan since Midnight was released. I bought a couple of the earlier products (the two Traps & Treachery books, for example) and wasn't impressed enough to add them to the permanent list... until Midnight.

Midnight products are now a standing order, although I have yet to organise a Midnight campaign (have to finish one of the other four I have on the go first, I think).

I also think the "FF" part of the acronym is a problem after all the bad publicity for that other company (which, IMO, was well and truly deserved... not least of which for their absolute refusal to see the error of their ways....).

Cheers
D
