why no epic levels for dieties?????

A hundredth-level character... Why wouldn't (s)he be a god?

Oh well, would be instructive to see just about where Epic Level mortals could start dropping the gods in D&D and F&P.

Somehow, I think it's gonna take more than 60, even well-tooled, for the bigger gods.

Couldn't possibly combine the two books. ELH is already probably the longest supplement released by WotC at right about 320 pages.
It's the longest book ever released by them, I think. Definitely for 3e anyway.
Those 20 outsider hit dice may be there but I don't think they add to the CR on a 1 to 1 basis since they don't really grant much.

I have DDG but have yet to purchase the ELH.

First, I am glad that most of WoTC's books are stand alone. In 2nd Edition, it seemed that a lot of the books referred to other books. This seemed especially true, as rounser stated, for the campaign setting materials. Sometimes, I would want to see if a setting supplement had anything I was interested in using. Then I would see references to a few other books. It made using anything a bit annoying and made me NOT want to pick up a book from TSR. (Indeed, part of the problem with the old TSR is it felt like you had to have ALL the books to play D&D. Quick, how many Complete Handbook's were there? At least you could pick and chose with the Historical Reference series.)

A DM can and perhaps should alter things to fit his or her campaign setting. This can apply to published settings as well. If I do not like the way a deity is presented, I will alter the description.

Also, NEVER underestimate the powerful followers a deity would have. An epic level character seeking to defeat a greater god would likely face an army of worthy opponents.

Lest we not forget that most campaign settings wont even HAVE epic level characters.

The only setting where they come close to being common is FR.

Frankly i am suprised that ELH isint being releaseed as an FR specific book *snicker*

A 3rd book?

They mentioned in the Epic Level Book that there would be another book?

I heard this a year ago at Origins ... that a 3rd book might be created to deal with levels 41 through 100.

Is this the case, then?

Does anyone know?

Also, nice troll! :):)

I doubt the possibility of another epic-level book. I read about a reference to a book in the ELH that could be the monsters-as-PCs book we've been hearing about.

I'm not so sure about the viability of even high-level epic mortals versus greater gods. Always maxed out rolls, SDAs that make epic feats look cheap.

And never mind if the diety has the (Mass) Life and Death SDA. "Hrm, that 100th level git looks like he might be a nuisance. I think he should be dead." And you are. No save. No ressurection from anything short of a more pwerful diety. Bang.

ACTUALLY, Troll, the idea guiding all of the non-Core books is that you don't need to buy more than one to get use out of them. Thus, you can use D&DG w/out the ELH, or the ELH w/out D&DG. This is the *opposite* of "money grubbing". It's trying to make sure each book is a stand-alone value, that you don't need to buy a bunch of other books in order to get your money's worth from the first one.

But, you're a troll. And an illiterate one, at that.

now that was completely uncalled for. most people have discussed this with tact and intelligence. and you choose to throw stones. sad.

Shame, shame (OT)

This is OT, but I felt the need to throw a shame, shame out to anyone who thinks to venomously attack those who have a different opinion than he does. I even voted on one of the previous polls (on this board), how nice everyone was here. The very next day I see an inferno erupt (at least four different threads were being torched). I understand that it is sometimes frustrating to comprehend another's opinion (my oldest daughter is going to break me yet), but it doesn't mean that hostilities are needed.

Please, you are not bringing the image of this board higher by striking violently at a differing opinion (especially at people with under 20 posts to their credit - which is what most of these flames seem to be). I am not looking for a response and am not trying to be "holier than thou", but I am hoping that some of these responses are just reflex reactions (or attempts at humor) and that in the future we can try to make the EN Boards a welcome place for newbies as well as veterans.

On topic, I also have DDg, and am not sure if I will purchase ELH. With that in mind, I am obviously overjoyed at not being required to have both. I can understand eXodus' frustration, especially if you are using a setting that incorporates a pantheon from DDg. Retrofitting for an entire pantheon is a lot of work. On the other hand, since the books are already out, you are not going to be able to change it in this case. Do you want them to change their policiy in the future? Whatever your answer, just keep in mind that you may someday only wish to shell out for one piece and not the whole pie.

Some of the posts in this thread have suggested some good ideas, and it may be worth looking into whether or not (barring a few feats and items) deities do indeed stack up againts epics.

Just my morning rant - thank you for your time.

Not quite - but close ;-). The FRCS is 320 pages (and has a smaller font) ....
