Why so little D20 Modern Support?

And to abuse a tired cliche... No, wait, I won't do that.

Even if I only had as little as half a wit, it would still be twice what the two of you have demonstrated you can muster together with your lame efforts at insults.

Hey, Dana... I'll give you an example of REAL lameness.

"You're not buying MY product so **** YOU!"

Half of one, anyway.

Well I have decided that there is no reason to sell the D20 Modern stuff I have. I will just keep it and if the off-chance I can use it comes up I will.

As for support if a supplement comes out in hardcover I will be sure to buy it if it looks good, I still wont buy .pdf's and Dana's actions sure caise me to have a further distaste for .pdfs.

Hey JD,

Nice points. Somewhat naively, I think that messing around here on ENWorld is my own way of trying to light candles. I'm working on other projects as my main hobbies, so I don't really have the time or interest to put out free PDFs when I come up with good rules for how to handle shovels and pitchforks as weapons, or how to handle d20 Modern characters in wheelchairs, or how to make more interesting poison rules, or any of the other stuff that comes up in my games. But it's fun to kick around here with people.

I just finished an investigative adventure, and rather than make it on paper, I put it up on my website to reference via laptop during the game. Now that the adventure's over, I'd planned to take it down, but people had been complaining about a lack of more-investigaton, less-find-and-kill-monster games, so if leaving it up will give people ideas... why not?

Not tooting my own horn -- just thinking about the little ways in which everybody can help.

Oh... and to the author of the thread...
Please don't take Dana's remarks as indicative AT ALL of anyone other than Dana's attitude.
D20 Modern is a growing market, and while most of the products are still in PDF format, many of them are being ported over to print...
A shade of patience may be in order, but it should be well rewarded.

Dana has a tendency to have that effect on people. You're not alone.

As for hard copy products, I highly recommend the Modern Player's Companion (by the Game Mechanics, and printed by Green Ronin), and of course, all the Blood and * books by RPGObjects.
....
Okay...
And my wife's upcoming print product, "Modern Backdrops". :) We're working all the bugs out of it, now for print. Should be available next month, or so, in print. *crosses fingers*

Regardless of the fact that I am keeping D20 Modern I still wouldnt buy Dana's products and I wouldnt recommend them to anyone I know. And Dana only his himself to thank for that.

Well I wont be recommending Dana's work to anyone. That you can be sure of. That will cost him a couple sales at least.

JD brings up some excellent points. Since d20 Modern isn't as predominant as D&D and all its offspring products, you can't expect to see the same amount of support in the marketplace. However, since the time with d20 Modern was released, I've seen the support for it steadily grow. Yes, the majority of those products are in .PDF format, but more and more are going to print via major publishers like The Game Mechanics and our Sidewinder: Recoiled via Green Ronin or to print on their own.

If you don't like .PDF's, hey that's your decision, to each his own, I don't begrudge anyone their opinion. But one thing you may want to investigate if you see a .PDF product that interests you is if that publisher would consider having a small print run done by RPGMall. We (Dog House Rules) did that with Sidewinder: Recoiled as a service to our loyal fanbase...not to mention the fact that we all wanted hard copies. All in all, it's a relatively small investment for a fledgling design house to make.

Good to see in a recent post that you've decided to not sell your d20 Modern book. It's a very strong set of rules and while in my mind it really doesn't have a "built in" setting, it is a strong toolbox that can be used for a myriad of game types. Hang in there, I'd bet that the support is sure to grow further.

Here we go again...

Why must publishers come on here and defend their jobs so vehemently that they get into fights with each other?

Maybe we should turn this place into a no-pimping-your-own-product zone so we can stop having everyone make an ass out of themself in front of thousands of potential buyers.

I'm not naming any one poster in particular, so none of you should take direct offense to this post, it's more of a generalization of the way our collective behaviour is going. Put it in your sig, and let it go, quit running around plugging stuff to EVERY thread. Not only is it annoying, it's just spam, which used to be a bannable offense.

Got a press release...take it to the publisher forum and leave the rest of the world out of it.

jez...OUT

Ever notice how people seem to always say the mass murderers, serial killers, spree killers and the like seemed to be nice people?

Maybe it's because if someone walked around acting like a mass muderer, he'd be stopped before he actually became one.

As to d20M, I wish core book spent some time, as the d20 CoC book did, providing support (skills, equipment, etc) for other time frames. That, IMO, would remove the game somewhat from it's Urban Arcana mindset.
