I would be interested in why you are so sure of this view. Your profile says you were born in the 80's, and of that is right this was all happening before you were born - so why so sure?

Is it impossible for people to understand things that they didn't witness?

I mean, I'm not an expert on the early days of D&D and I wasn't born then either. But if I read enough, talked to the right people, etc., I could be.

I am still waiting on your reply to my question about why you keep telling people who disagree with you that they must not have much experience playing D&D/RPGs.

Because they are wrong and their response warrants lack of experience.

Damage comes in many forms, not just a physical blow. If my 3rd edition wizard or cleric hits you with Hold Person then that is an attack that does a type of paralysis damage. Some people are trying to double split the hairs and it just shows desperation.

I can cast sleep on a guard, walk past him, steal his keys, and walk out without ever touching the guy and that's "damage?"

Do I cause "diplomacy" damage if I convince him to give me his keys? Do I do "stealth" damage if I sneak past him? Do I do "light" damage if I blind him with a light spell? Do I do "teleport" damage if I teleport around him?
