Why Wizards are better than Sorcerers, and other stories

BOOOOOOO vow of poverty BOOOOOO.... that is such a wretched ability. A monk in my campaign was going to use it so I decided that if he did i would ive the group 100,000 gp each and the monk would break his vow and the gold would be fake and the monk would cry... mwahahaha...

Sounds to me you just need to learn that DM'ing isn't about Players VS. DM.

Also sounds to me like you're afraid that the Monk is more powerful then the DM! BECAUSE MONKS ARE THE PENULTIMATE POWER IN THE WORLD!!!

Just teasin',

Arcane preparation?
He he..Nice feat generally if you consider that allows you poor-minded meat-wands to cast spells as we do..
I haven't heard or seen many of you(Sorcerers) choosing this feat thought(after all you don't get that many feats, don't you?).
You also said that we need to be prepared to do any harm in any situation?(For gods sake what kind of spells do you think a wizard prepares in any situation in any given day?).
And something last.In a duel between a wizard and a sorcerer the wizard using the Reactive Counterspell feat(Magic of faerun) can easily dodge any spell the sorcerer will throw(assuming the second will win the initiative).
Sure, your sorcerer can take this feat but he will have to sacrifice other feats that suit better at his pathetic inferiority.(and he does not get that many, doesn't he?).

Reactive Counterspell [Generall]

Prerequisites:Improved counter spell,Improved initiative
Benefit:Once per round, you can counterspell an opponent's spell even if you have not readied an action to do so.This counterspell action takes the place of your regular action for the round (and which is the only class that can cast two spells in a single round throught quicken spell?) :D .

The Wizard

Misty morning, clouds in the sky
Without warning, the wizard walks by
Casting his shadow, weaving his spell
Funny clothes, tinkling bell
Never talking
Just keeps walking
Spreading his magic
Evil power disappears
Demons worry when the wizard is near
He turns tears into joy
Everyone's happy when the wizard walks by
Never talking
Just keeps walking
Spreading his magic
Sun is shining, clouds have gone by
All the people give a happy sigh
He has passed by, giving his sign
Left all the people feeling so fine
Never talking
Just keeps walking
Spreading his magic ...

Yep, the wizard really gets a lot more of those to be spent on stuff like Reactive Counterspelling. ;)

(and he does not get that many, doesn't he?).

12 Feats in 20 levels. Not too bad if you ask me. :)

Yes, 12 feats in 20 levels are not that bad. However you don't begin your "carrier" being a 20-th level character and you have to make tought decisions in feat selection.Besides that you have to choose feats for prestige classes.Ok, I think that a sorcerer might have problems trying to specialize in some more "exotic" assets of spellcasting but yes, the feats he gets are after all the standart(not too many, not to few) .
Also, a specialist wizard gets 5 spells per level max which is only one less per level than the sorcerer. :)

-Sorry for beeing a bit stiff in my previous post but:
a)Hey,we are talking about wizards
b)thats me :)

Couple of things...

1. It always concerns me just a little bit when the a person uses the first person to talk about their character "...to cast spells as we do.." But that's just me.

2. To counterspell you need to succeed at a spellcraft check of 15 +spell level to ID the spell, then you will have to counter it with a spell of the same school that is at least one level higher. So, unless you have a spell of every school prepared at one level higher than every offensive spell the sorcerer has you have just managed to make yourself the most pigeonhold one trick pony in the world. In short, a same level sorcerer with magic missile and heighten is a real honest to goodness challenge for your counterspell character.

3. Wizard bonus feats are good but wiards only get Scribe Scroll and four others that must be metamagic or item creation. Just to take reactive counterspell would require three feats from your wizard. The earliest possible would be level 3 (Bonus feat for human , plus feats at level 1 and 3).

So at level 3, with a maxed out spellcraft, and five ranks of Knowledge (arcana), and a 18 INT you could for the mere cost of 11 skill points you would still fail to ID a first level spell 20% of the time.

At level 10 you could ID everyspell cast of level up to level 5 easily. Which is good. But the first time you did this to a sorcerer worth anything, he would cast a silent, stilled spell, or cast a heightened spell, or drink that potion of firebreathing and beltch at your character.

Well, I never found the wizard bonus feats that useful. Item creation is surely powerful, but not the right way for everyone, and metamagic is only useful at pretty high levels for wizards or as a prerequisite.

a)I told you thats me.
b)As i wrought before i was too stiff in my last letter(althought wizards get higher level spells earlier than sorcerers). There is no such thing as better character than another or my character outmatches your or something.. :)
c)In 3.5 bonus wizard feats include spell focus which is good foor me.
Also i was of course speaking for levels higher than 5-7.

see ya. :D
