why would you use ecto-pupet?

In the modified rules from "Minds Eye" Ectopupet is the constructs PP plus 2pp. What is the advantage of using ectopupet? ???? Surely it is not the +2St and +2 Dex??? What makes it woth the PP compared to a normal construct that does not require concentration and can move an unlimited distance away!!

It becomes especialy useless if you get the feat (forgotten name) that creates additional lower level constructs.

Anyone actualy played this...would be interested in comments.

There are two benefits:

The good: It's only a standard action to create. If you need to put a construct between you and that charging minotaur right now then this is a good power to have.

The bad: You can abuse it, horribly, with Trigger Power :mad: Sure, I want an Astral Construct IX for free :D but no reasonable DM will let me do that. The errata fixed that, but I can never recall the details.
 

as a psion6/constructor8 your cap is lifted to 18pp so trigger is still well and truely open to abuse for the one class that would use it the most!

I wont do it as cant afford the prerequisits anyway.

Still dont see how stantardPP +2PP is at all a good number.

A better fix would have been standard PP- 2PP and "it is not possible to use trigger power with ectopuppet." :)
 

outside of trigger it sucks. I always go for trigger though. I think getting my go to attack power for free is well worth the 3 feats. I can't rememeber the constructor pre-req so I don't know if its feasible for them though.
 

I think that as a constructor twin power, quicken power, maximize may be better.

Also want to take master djore as I have a 7ST and a 8CHA and need a few extra powers up my sleave for emergencies
 

The standard action is the best part. Make a construct & take a full round attack right now.

Ecto-pupet should be a psionic feat, though. Particuarlly given that a big idea of psions is using feats instead of powers. IMC I use it as a feat, requiring a PP reserve equal to the cost of the astral construct power you're using.

Sounds like a good idea for the player.....isn't it way too powerfull if there is no PP cost?

People complain about the trigger abuse and the errant increased the cost to the AC cost +2.

Also whilst I agree with the feats are great thing Psions get realy crappy acess to feats.....anyone know why they were not given any bonus feats??

twin power and quicken power are overpriced IMO. Quicken more so than twin, and maximize how will that help?

Are you really going to spend another 6pp and have it be a lower level construct so you get the maximum number summoned?

also you get a pseudo quicken ability at 10th contructor level I beleive if this isn't a one shot its worth waiting for it.
 

Quickened Construction works 5 times per day.

Using metapsionics isn't useful unless you're also using Efficient and Infused Construction - then you could create 60 AC VIIs in one round and drive your DM nuts.
 

Quickened power is death insurance. The ability to attack and heal or raise protections is exceptionaly good if you are in a leathal campain or have/like to be self sufficient. Yes the cost is high but .....

Its actualy cheaper!
As a constructor8/psion6 my meta cap is 18!
For example if I raise AC VI standard PP is 11, my PP is 9. Twinning costs 8 for 8+9= 17pp. 2 abilities in one round for less than the cost 2 in 2 rounds.


Yes more is much better!
If you sacrifice the VI for a IV then you get 2d4+2d3 constructs. As a constructor a IV can have 3 selections on the list B list!
This can include ranged attacks like spiked volley or gives a trade up to CONCUSSION. Tell me 8 x concussion/round is not PAINFULL.

Better is ACIV at 7PP or 5PP for the constructor. I have a phionatrix that is -1pp so can max and twin for 14 ACII with concussion. Worse its 14ACII with spiked fury 14x2d4x1d6 in a 60 foot cone! 70d6 save for 1/2

Also you can scatter the many, divert a lot of attacks and hold some back to interupt spellcasters.
