Extraordinarily unlikely I'd buy it, since our group is playing 1e. It would take someone buying it on a whim, reading it in limited free time, and having a quasi-religious ecstasy over it that could persuade the rest of the group to spend a bunch of money. We've got Savage Worlds and Gamma World in the hopper as potential "next systems," so a 4e purchase is incredibly unlikely to happen.

A new system is going to be based on setting considerations, not on "better system" considerations.

There are alot of mechanics with 3e that I'd like to see change, and judging by SW saga 4e will do that. I'm cautious about how they are planing to change the class structure.
Plus I'm heavily invested into 3e , and how easy converting material will be is a big issue. Most of the changes I'd like to see I can probably use as House rules. But I do wonder how easily I will be able to convert all the books/adventures i've got into 4e. If its easily done, I will probably invest in 4e, if its difficult, then its a choice between 4e and 3e, and 3rds going to win. At least while I can find a players that still want to play 3e.

I will probably buy it... I am, after all, a D&D player, and it is D&D. I don't think that I will probably make the switch from 3rd edition to 4th edition right away, unless my players demand that I do so... It was about a year after I got the 3rd edition books that I switched my last game from 2nd edition... But it'll be handy to have the books in the case that I want to join a group that is using the new edition.

I'll look at it in the store and the SRD of course, but I plan on playing 3.5 and CoC d20 for the forseeable future. I might buy the new books someday if I'm really impressed, but more likely my next D&D purchases will be 5e (a mere 5 years from now! or less!)

I probably will wait a couple years, until everything I want to do in 3.5 is at least played, if not played out. Then if I like what I see in 4e, I'll pick it up, otherwise I've got many other games and systems to run.

So, now that it's official - will you buy it? What are your feelings?

I might buy the core three. Might. But I have no use for them at the moment, group decision is we're not converting to 4th....we're playing in Ptolus, so it makes sense to stay in 3.5.....
